Bullet train station
Why does it take over $320000.00 for a simple website? Its not like the limited graphics and simple user interface requires a team of engineers.
Unfortunately, many conservative posters have "voted" with their wallets in the hope that the infiltrators will get zotted.
It's an open forum. Don't let them win. Elon Musk isn't going to bail everyone out.
They need to take a few ads. Every other site does. It wouldn’t bother me.
Free Republic may be one of the last lines of defense, and the enemy knows that.
> Free Republic has been inundated with posters bent on chasing away conservative posters. <
You have a point. A fundamental Free Republic rule is “NO personal attacks”. FR would do well to enforce that rule more strictly.
It doesn’t.
It changes it from an organization to a business and a whole other set of rules apply.
“They need to take a few ads.”
I agree. Do you hear us, Mr. Robinson?
Yes, I’ve also been thinking that this seems expensive. This is a very simple website. How much do service providers charge?. I’ll make a second donation for this quarter, but i would really like to know at what point is this web site in peril. It’s my favorite go-to for news; sometimes I suffer a shocking reality check, sometimes it’s comforting.
I believe they own and operate their own servers. As far as I know, every post ever made is still up on the website except ones removed by the moderators. Posters can and do embed graphics in their post.
Free Republic has to pay power costs for however many servers and work stations they operate plus whatever ISP fees they have. I also imagine that there are also techie costs.
What does this add up to? Don’t know, but I know it ain’t cheap.
It’s honestly more like “How much does it cost to make it worth someone’s while to keep this going?”. Data centers have driven all the prices up.
Yes, there is one long time members that constantly resorts to name calling. Yet, they remain here.
i used to run a manga site, i WAS a leader of a japanese manga translation site.
you get what you pay for, it cost me at least 1k per month for the websites’s bandwidth, and that’s niche, we actually breakeven from the ad’s and rest of the profit goes to buying japanese manga each month
this site have no ads, and insane among of traffic, plus the domain itself is probably a premium due to the traffic it draws.
Our enemies know how close they came to taking over everything.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
I don’t know FR’s traffic numbers, but I do wonder if X is significantly cutting into it. The world has been changing since I migrated over here from Lucianne in 2004. I think it’s time to begin some serious long-term strategy as the never-ending financial requests getting more and more difficult.
Needs more young posters, rather than 20-year pioneers bragging about how many zots they’ve triggered.
Compared to this website's heyday, I think the opposite is true: all of the Constitutional conservatives who nonetheless had dissenting opinions on whatever the current orthodoxy of the moment is (whether it be the Iraq War, Middle East affairs, Trump, or what have you) got purged long ago.
The Freepathons take longer to clear each and every quarter, and that trend has been exacerbating for well over a decade at this point.
