After her knockout Saturday, women’s junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio has been placed in a medically induced coma, ESPN reported Sunday.
...
The 19-year-old was knocked unconscious after multiple hits to the head in her fight with Jocelyn Camarillo at the Orange Show Event Center in San Bernardino, Calif. Camarillo landed an early left hook and three more punches before Sio fell to the ground.
The fight ended after 78 seconds.
She received immediate medical attention following the knockout and was stretchered out of the arena before being taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda University Health Medical Center. Sio could be seen convulsing as she was taken out, the first sign her injuries were more devastating than a typical knockout.
Sunday’s knockout follows another during her most recent match with Perla Bazualda on Jan. 30 after several crushing body blows.
She currently has a 1-3 overall record after falling unanimously to Jessica Radtke Maltez in her debut. Her lone win came against Katelyn Radtka.
Sunday’s result moved Camarillo to 6-0

I used to go to Muy-Thai fights in Virgina Beach back in the day. SEALs would go there to fight and a lot of them got their asses handed to them by smaller opponents. I saw one Marine get his jaw broke and knocked out cold one night. They had to stretcher him out too. His opponent was a little itty-biddy Filipino who was an absolute lion. Just vicious. Now, if the SEALs and that Marine were allowed to fight their kind of fight, those little brown boys would be nothing but grease spots on the canvass, but when technique and civility is involved, it changes the dynamic. I hope this young lady comes out of it with no permanent brain damage and maybe an inkling to go find another hobby or line of work.
Those laws ,as presented , pertain to men boxers. So maybe the boxette and her manager thought they could get by on that technicality.
Hope she survives with no permanent damage....
Tattoos and purple outfits don’t help you survive head shots.
The previous fight she had in California was misinterpreted by the way the write up was accomplished.
Knockout Context from the previous fight that listed a body shot as the finishing blow:
“The finish was officially logged as a body shot, which can carry a shorter suspension — around 30 days under California rules. However, the sequence did not end there. Sio took additional head shots after the initial blow as she reacted late and took a knee.”

So the hook to the body may have been the finishing blow, but the knockout was from head blows.

Yeah, it’s brutal but just day-to-day living is brutal sometimes!
As long as, the combat is between consenting adults, how do you propose to stop it?
I watched Emile Griffith beat Benny “Kid” Paret to death in the ring way back in the day.
That happened (in part) due to poor officiating.
The referee could have stopped that fight but for some reason didn’t!
Maybe he was paid-off, I don’tknow!
Its boxing, it happens. They also put injured people in comas for brain swelling and such, all the time. They are trying to make a big deal out ofmthis because, women.
I am in the middle of my 4th concussion in the past 8 yrs. NOT a good place to be in. I am worried for this young woman and pray she is able to heal.
AMEN TO THAT!
Article says she took a knee. Does not mention she was knocked out.
Avoidable tragedy.
Avoidable tragedy.
This woman agrees with you. Boxing and wrestling are men’s sports.
I’m all for freedom of choice but women’s bodies and I say this as a former high school star athlete are not built to withstand violent fighting. Its just a fact.
I completely agree with you, they’re not meant for it.
I’ve seen women’s boxing where they’ll just pummel each other without either being able to actually finish the job - they didn’t have the power. This just translated to each of them taking a bruising beating, I didn’t see the point.
They’re free to do so - but I feel it is disrespectful to the nature of the female body.
Women fight all the time.
They might as well be proficient in some martial art.
Just my personal opinion but women (and men) should “know” how to fight if they’re met with aggression.
Even if it only allows them to escape their aggressor!
78 seconds?
Was she fighting a tranny?
That all depends on who Don King had his bets on. He promotes all the fights and represents all the fighters... A pretty good gig if you can get it... Especially if you’re also a gambler.
The last good fight I ever watched from start to finish was Larry Holmes beating the tar out of Tex Cobb back in 1982. 15 rounds and Cobb didn’t drop... His face looked like hamburger and he just kept on standing. That man had a very hard head and went on to do some pretty good acting... He was awesome in ‘Raising Arizona’ directed by the Cohen brothers.
But I guess the excitement of seeing a knockout trumps all
I think they should do away with these pansy sports and bring the gladiators back. It would be a nice fit for our degenerating society.
Is this concept an nice fit for men?
They can’t chase cigarette butts around in the urinal.
