A stubborn patient has refused to leave her Florida hospital room even though she was discharged by doctors five months ago, a lawsuit alleges.
Charlotte Paynter has allegedly been unlawfully occupying Room 373 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital since October, according to a civil lawsuit filed by the hospital on March 3.
Paynter, 69, was admitted to the medical facility for treatment for an undisclosed condition last year, the hospital said in the complaint obtained by the Daily Mail.
Doctors issued a formal discharge order on October 6 after it was determined that she no longer needed acute care services, the filing said.
Paynter has allegedly 'refused to vacate' her hospital room even though medical staff have made 'repeated efforts' to help her 'safely complete discharge.'
The complaint does not say when Paynter was first admitted to the facility, but notes the hospital provided her with a written order to vacate on November 24.
Tallahassee Memorial claimed in the complaint that resources have been diverted from helping other patients because of her continued occupation of the room.
The hospital has now asked a state judge in Tallahassee for an injunction ordering the patient to vacate the hospital room and authorizing the county sheriff's office to assist if necessary.

Why is the Daily Mail reporting on a non-story like this? Is it to make the UK’s own dysfunctional system look better?
For the record, my daughter is an ER nurse. The number of people they have who attempt to remain in the ER taking up space when there’s nothing wrong with them is not insignificant. They often have to have security escort the person out, and it often results in a scene. Most times, these people are drugged up or otherwise mental.
I agree! In the middle of the night, they should wheel the bed out of the hospital, Bobby Orr/Derek Sanderson style, put her in an ambulance, transport her to her domicile, and unload the bed with her in it on the sidewalk in front and declare she can keep the bed.
They swallow the cost of the bed and the ambulance ride and come out better in the end.
Don’t those beds have wheels?
Isn’t this called trespassing? Simple, call the cops, ask her to leave, put on the cuffs. Why is it such a problem? Her privilege to be treated is no longer in effect.

Thank you. I see I am not alone in my fight against pronoun abuse.
the bed is on wheels right? right? what is the problem?
Is that her Tinder photo?
Should be evicted and dropped off at the nearest homeless shelter.
Hopefully, a Florida judge will make the correct ruling.
Does the bed have wheels?
I kinda think she is telling them she needs to be institutionalized.

Does the bed have wheels?
Yep....she’ll still get her ‘3 hots and a cot’ 😏
“Nurse Ratched, pick up the white courtesy phone.”
Ican tell you stories about hospital patients...there is such a thing as a “ positive samsonite” diagnosis...a patient brings their suitcase to the ER and intends to force admission.
Don’t forget the cable tv...
Can’t they just stop feeding her?
We had a woman drop off her dementia husband and refused to take him back...this happens all the time.
Hospital beds have wheels on them, correct? I think I see a simple solution to this problem. Wheel her out into the parking ramp, while she’s sleeping. Lay a trespass order on her chest.
Those beds have wheels, no?
