Sable Restarts Oil Production, Transport in Santa Barbara County After Federal Order

Sable Offshore Corp. announced Monday that it restarted production on Platform Harmony and transporting oil to refineries in response to President Donald Trump and the Department of Energy ordering the move under the Defense Production Act.

The Texas-based company has been attempting to restart the oil production facilities in Santa Barbara County for several years, including the offshore platforms and pipelines to transport oil to refineries.

Local governments, environmental groups and residents have consistently pushed back, often citing safety concerns about major spills.

One of the Sable pipelines is the one that ruptured and caused the 2015 Refugio Oil Spill under the previous owner, Plains All American Pipeline.

We used to live by there at Vandenberg AFB. Going south on 101 you can see the platforms some of them flaring excess methane all they way down to Ventura. Our go to beach was Gaviota and a pipeline came ashore there to a small refinery.

Ironically that is a part of coastal California that is still picture book perfect. Still relatively unharmed by concrete and masses of people.

And every last one of them should be BANNED FROM PURCHASING ALL PETROLEUM PRODUCTS FOR LIFE

“We used to live by there at Vandenberg AFB...”

Been there a number of times as I used to own property in Pismo. When I was last there, it was still very pristine in the areas separating the BX facilities and between the different parts around the cantonment areas. Funny the BX had limited hours on the weekends. Guess everyone goes to Lompoc, Santa Maria, Buellton, Guadalupe, or even Santa Barbara or LA.

It could be done pretty easily if the Credit Card Payment companies got on board and simply DENIED ALL TRANSACTIONS for Gas,Oil or any purchase with a Petroleum Product of any kind. Make them PAY CASH FOR ALL

Instead of the pushback, Santa barbara luddites could work with sable to minimize any spill. Reinforce the pipeline, instantaneous pressure monitoring, etc. The Santa Barbara channel has lots of natural seepage of oil, already before Sable. And get a decent fee from sable. They could use the money to build a few spillover water reservoirs close to lake Cachuma to become more drought proof. And they can humanely solve their homeless problem to be a model for other cities. Instead they fold their arms, stamp their feet, stop any solution, then go and rave about the latest wine, coffee bar, or charity ball.
Maybe a bit of exaggeration, but they just don’t try and solve their problems if they think it interferes with their societal notions, and lifestyles. IMHO

This is good news, except, any accessible point along this pipeline has now become a target for activists to sabotage. A spill hurts Trump AND offshore oil. FedGov better become hyper vigilant right now.

The first offshore oil well was drilled off a pier near Santa Barbara in about 1900. California was America’s largest oil producer until about 1930. In the mid 20th Century, ARCO considered installing a giant funnel in the water off the beaches to capture the natural oil seeping from the sea bed.

There is a lot of oil out there.

It’s amazing, if true, that Sable can restart mothballed facilities so soon.

They have been maintaining them apparently, so in the event they can switch it on, they would be able to in short time.

Nope. They are pumping the oil but the refiners are still going away.

Sometimes we would go to Avila or Pirate's Cove and even to Pismo. The one beach you can drive on right to the surf line.

Xlnt point. Lots of drug addled “loafers” in Santa Barbara area with self righteous fury. I would hate to see Sta. Barbara turned into a slick corporate tourist trap, but they have the means to keep it a laid back, easy going respite and solve their pressing water and environmental needs and keep it “chill”

I’ve been to the beaches of santa barbara when the oil drills were not working. The beaches have lots of small black oil blobs.

Apparently, the oil seeps from the Santa Barbara Channel naturally

Yes it does. Even the dinosaurs want a little beach time.

Then there is this article about the Sable news from Santa Barbara’s left-wing free publication, The Independent:

https://www.independent.com/2026/03/16/sable-offshore-resumes-pumping-and-transporting-oil-in-santa-barbara-county/

The Independent is the liberal rag you get in the same place Tatted NoseRing PinkHair makes your coffee in those joints. NoozHawk is conservative. Santa Barbara no longer has a traditional daily paper.

Someone here on FR told me it would take months if not years to restart drilling operations so it must be true. /s
