It was One Battle After Another’s night. Paul Thomas Anderson’s action-thriller took home six Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, including Best Supporting Actor, Best Directing and Best Picture.
The film also won awards for Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as the first-ever Oscar for Best Casting. Upon accepting his award, Anderson — who had previously been nominated for an Oscar around a dozen times — joked, “You make a guy work hard for one of these, I really appreciate it.”
Sinners also had a big night, bringing home four Oscars, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan’s role as twins Smoke and Stack. In his acceptance speech, Jordan thanked the Black actors “who came before me.” Sinners cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first-ever female winner for Best Cinematography.
Frankenstein took home three Oscar statuettes, while KPop Demon Hunters nabbed two, including an Oscar for Best Original Song. Two films — Two People Exchanging Saliva and The Singers — tied for Best Live Action Short Film.
A portion of the show was dedicated to the many actors, writers and filmmakers who died in 2025. Billy Crystal led a moving tribute to Rob Reiner, the longtime actor and director who was stabbed to death with his wife, Michelle Reiner, in December

It’s difficult for me to judge. I stopped going to movies 20 years ago, and I don’t watch much Netflix.
I will watch a big series like the Sopranos (20 years ago now), Downton Abbey, or recently Peaky Blinders. That’s about it.
I did watch “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and found it dull, which cemented my opinion against Hollywood.
My middle-aged friends are ALL the same in this regard. I struggle to find anyone I know who can objectively give me sound reviews and judgements on Hollywood movies any longer
If sinners was made by a white guy it would have been completely ignored by the Oscar’s.
Likewise, One Battle After Another was intentionally cast and written to pander for an Oscar. Paul said as much.
KPop Demon Hunters is ok - not really Oscar material but it had no competition.
I don’t do Hollywoode, the last New Movie I watched was Top Gun Maverick, and have no use whatsoever for these clowns that play pretend for a living.
In Memoriam ignored Bardot (they would have booed her) and James Van Der Beek (he has six kids).
The best movies are not produced in hollyweird.
What is the point in these awards anyway? I know they were started because people lost interest in movies by 1924, but I don’t know anyone who spent money on a movie based on these awards.
It is also the biggest box office flop to ever win best picture. Warner Bros lost at least $75-100 million on it. And Trump is still their president.
We dumped out after 15 minutes. It just kept getting worse.
The Best Picture and Best Director winner was decidedly one of Anderson’s lesser films. Goes to show you how crappy the “competition” was in 2025.
I didn’t think any character in OBAA was well developed. I didn’t see what motivated any of them and couldn’t get invested in them. Yeah, we saw few ticks and fetishes but never enough to give you glimpse of what made them tick. Thus you didn’t care about them. Add to that the thin plot and lack of any real drama. And you get a mess with a couple of good chase scenes.
A straight up badly made movie that bombed at the box office, yet they give it 6 Oscars, amazing.
if mention of the oscars wasn’t posted here, i’d have no idea that they had happened ... question: if the oscars were held in the woods, would anyone care?
I care enough to say I used to enjoy movies.
I do not, however, care for the crap they’re putting out nowadays.
Gay, Lesbian, DEI, Trans, Leftist fantasies all suck.
Bring back the Hollywood of at least the 70s!
Correct.
That shows how useless Hollywood is at this point.
I watched it, mediocre at best. Just like the unwatchable weiners, oops, oscars.
I wouldn’t see it simply because DiCrapio is in it. Non-acting pos.
“Frankenstein I lost interest in and turned off” I wouldn’t watch it cause I don’t like gore fests but sad how far Christian Bale has sunk since Hostiles and Ford v. Ferrari.
” . . . question: if the oscars were held in the woods, would anyone care?”
Competition for what we know the bear does there?
