(KTLA) — After nearly three decades, NBC Universal is pulling the plug on the entertainment magazine show “Access Hollywood.” The move comes as the media giant announced it will stop producing first-run syndicated television programming.
The move also affects “Karamo” and “The Steve Wilkos Show.”
“NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations,” said Chairman Bravo & Peacock Unscripted Frances Berwick in a statement obtained by Variety. Free on Your TV • FOX31+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung
“First-run syndication sells programs created exclusively for sale to local stations. Game shows and talk shows predominate in this category. Theatrical films, made-for-television films, and one-time-only specials make up a third category of syndicated programs,” EBSCO explains on its website.
The announcement comes as “The Kelly Clarkson Show” announced it was coming to an end this year.
“Access Hollywood” launched in September 1996 and over the years was hosted by Nancy O’Dell, Billy Bush, Maria Menounos, Natalie Morales and others. Currently, Kit Hoover, Mario Lopez and Scott Evans are the hosts.
The daytime talk show “Karamo” launched in September 2022 and is hosted by Karamo Brown of “Queer Eye” fame. “The Steve Wilkos Show” is hosted by Wilkos, the former security guard who famously held back guests on the “Jerry Springer Show.” It’s been in production since 2007.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production has been completed for “Karamo” and “Steve Wilkos” and will have new episodes running through the summer. “Access Hollywood” and its additional show “Access Live” will continue production through the summer before officially wrapping up.

It's cheaper to pay online "influencers" to spread hype than it is to run a full television show.
I never watched it, so I won’t miss it.
One of the side effects of moving to TX is that I finally cut the cord. Right now I’m working a ton of OT which will end the middle of next week, and I’ll start thinking about television things at that time.
Nobody cares about so-called celebrities anymore.
We may wish that were true but there are those who will always fawn over someone else, such as Swifties or whatnot.
What's changed is that the celebrities have direct means of reaching their fans instead of going through television shows.
You are so right. The times have changed in the last 10 years.
Oh dear...that means I’ll have to spend the next 30 years doing what I did the last 30 years with regard to that show...not watching it.
No one is trying to access Hollyweird anymore.
Wait, that crap was still on the air, who knew
Miss Brodie said in her best Edinburgh voice: “For those
who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like.”
We watched “Train Dreams” on Netflix last night. It was a great movie.
I agree with you. Either this or the other major one, over the years I watched perhaps 20 minutes total. They’re repugnant. I was disgusted that people pay so much attention to frivolous matters
That’s true.
Thank you Access Hollywood for helping to elect Trump!
Yep, ‘Train Dreams’ is an excellent movie. Can’t say that about very many movies being made now.
Preferences of local stations?????
How about the preferences of the viewers?
Hellooooo..... McFly.........
.
Most of what is on television — an occasional sporting event aside — I would never dream of watching.
But obviously, shows like this find an audience, so they ring someone’s chimes.
One would really have to know with some precision the demographics of the audience and the way a show is watched.
A LOT of tv is turned on as background noise by people who are mainly preoccupied with something else. A lot of radio is consumed the same way. Daytime soap operas, for example, were designed for houewives folding the laundry or running the vacuum cleaner or doing whatever in the kitchen.
These are shows made for people who aren’t paying attention. And all shows get stale in time, and it becomes time to turn off the lights. The real question is what the networks and affiliate stations will fill the dead airtime with. Probably something just as mindless.
I WON;T MISS “KARAMO” NEVEr COULD watch him.
WILKOS CUTS TO CHASE-—I LIKE THAT.
I KNOW KELLY IS RETIRING & MOVING TO MONTANA-—BUT I SINCERELY LIKED PINK AS A HOST.
At least the L.A. feed with Kit and Mario, it was palpable. Not political at all. Actually I think Mario is a bit of a PDT guy. He is into MMA and a year or two back he was right with PDT walking in with all the fanfare at a MMA event.
