The maker of Ozempic, Novo Nordisk, has been hit with a lawsuit over allegations of wrongful death after a woman using the drug died from gastroparesis, a condition also known as stomach paralysis. Novo Nordisk denied the allegations.
Marsha Ettinghoff, 76, who had been taking the weight loss drug for six months, died from stomach paralysis, a condition where food passes through the stomach slower than it should, in August 2024 after feeling ill on holiday, attorneys representing her husband, Tracy Ettinghoff said. The attorneys, from the law firm Motley Rice, said the couple believed she had food poisoning after Ettinghoff experienced nausea and vomiting and said doctors prescribed her antibiotics and anti-nausea medications.
But after a few days, Ettinghoff complained she felt as if she had stuff regurgitating in her throat, Motley Rice said. They said her son then found her struggling to breath and as her family drove her to hospital she aspirated on her vomit and died.(snip)
Ettinghoff's family filed a lawsuit alleging that Novo Nordisk knew or should have known the risks posed by GLP-1 RA medications, including severe gastrointestinal complications and other injuries, but failed to update their warnings and labeling to adequately inform doctors and patients," Jonathan Orent, a Motley Rice attorney said. "They had a responsibility to disclose what they knew, and they didn’t."

Oh oh oh ozempic.
As long as it has a catchy marketing song big pharma will sell anything.
Has anyone seen Rosie?
Marsha Ettinghoff, 76...
Isn’t 76 is beyond the expiration date of most living things.
“They had a responsibility to disclose what they knew, and they didn’t.” — Hmmm, COVID vaccines, anyone?
It’s surprising how fast 76 sneaks up on you.
The jingle is from this song:

I thought this was a known potential risk—not likely, but possible.
“Isn’t 76 is beyond the expiration date of most living things.”
You hush your mouth! ;^D
I hung out at a bar the other night with a friend’s 94 year-old Mom. I never touched her but she snuck up on me and kissed me on the cheek!
“Isn’t 76 is beyond the expiration date of most living things.”
Nope. 79 last Jauary.
Taking a drug that is based on lizard venom (Gila Monster) peptides can have side effects.
“Hmmm, COVID vaccines, anyone?”
When are the millions that you predicted would die going to show up?
I think Ozempic will up there with the Covid jab. Safe and effective…in making money and BSing the public
Marsha isn’t doing it right.
I am on Ozempic, (diabetes and heart condition, also long term very high blood pressure, cholesterol (both genetic) weight issues (my fault) etc).
Side effects are a real problem, I have to monitor my digestion carefully:
1. Constipation is a big issue, I have worked out (no pun) where I take some Metamucil every night. If I don’t have a movement for a few days, I’ll take laxatives. “Overflow diarrhea” is a miserable side effect.
2. Stomach paralyses is indicated by “sulfur burps” where the food is digesting in the stomach if it doesn’t leave for 12-24 hours. Stop eating until it empties. Sometimes I’ll skip the next dose for a day or two to let my system catch up.
On the plus side, I’ve lost 30 pounds, (still a little overweight) my A1C had gone from 10 plus to 6.1, and all my other numbers are exactly where they should be.
But you need to be aware of the side effects and look out for them and deal with them. A couple of times I thought I would give it up because of the side effects, but I’ve figured out how to manage them, and the overall result has been very good. I honestly don’t thing the doctors really understand those, I had to figure it out myself. And getting the diabetes under control has been worth it.
It’s not all dancing with roses.
If it’s too good to be true, then it isn’t.
The only way to lose weight safely is to eat less and exercise more.
If you’re fat, it’s because you eat too much or you sit too much.
Self control is free.

It is
Congrats on losing the 30 pounds and getting A1C from 10 plus to 6.1! Good job!
I’ve lost 34 pounds since July 25. I did it with lifestyle and diet changes. I learned a huge amount from excellent doctors making content for YouTube on diet, metabolic health, glucose, diabetes, cardiac health, nutrition and lots more. The wealth of information available now is truly astonishing. Decades ago, you’d meet with your doc once a year for 30 minutes and he would say “lose weight, cut back on drinking, exercise more and take these meds.” That was it. It was hard to take control of your health with only that input.
I had the same thoughts. I'm almost 70 and trying Mounjaro. It worked kinda too well but I took myself off it. It got to where my stomach was saying "no" to practically everything non-liquid.
It works as advertised. My A1C dropped big-time and my weight dropped but I wanted to just eat something again.
Still, at 76, you gotta know if your system can handle it before jumping in.
