With due respect to Donald Trump, Cornyn’s hostility to Trump is probably third or fourth on the list or reasons to not vote for him. Cornyn is the definition of an “Establishment” Republican in the worst sense of the phrase. He sees no evil when it comes to the FBI and CIA.
I still remain convinced Trump will endorse Cornyn.
I really want to be wrong. I really wish Trump was not so friendly with the GOP Establishment.
This guy Cornyn is one of the worst, he is exactly the kind of republican we voted for Trump to get elected and go up there to give them heart burn. Now he endorses them.
This is meant for Texas voters, I believe, written by Paxton
Any Texas voter has been bombarded with Cornyn ads for months. Cornyn, in a cowboy hat claiming to have voted with Trump 99%, Cornyn strolling along the border with Trump quite photo shopped
Nothing truthful
And that is the entirety of the ad. No accomplishments by Cornyn. There have been none to talk about in an ad. The rest of the ads talk about Paxton having a bad marriage. Why people fall for this ploy in a country with a gigantic divirce rate, I can’t imagine. Paxton does his AG job very well, consistently, his marital issues do not involve his job, office or staff.
In that context,
Trump knows that it’s worth losing the Senate in order to lose Cornyn.
Remember, the Senate has the power to remove him from office.
It reminds me of Joe Manchin. Manchin voted with the Dem leaders 90% of the time but around election time, he rolled out a bunch of ads with him shooting a gun and talking tough about how he hated the Washington establishment and was just a good old West Virginia boy. Graham used to do the same thing in South Carolina but I think he's too far gone at this point to even pretend that he isn't a Washington Swamp Creature.
First term Trump would have undoubtedly endorsed Cornyn with the reasoning it was the "long view".
Second term Trump will not be taking the longer view.
He doesn't need to concern himself with congressional majorities in another term.
He NEEDS to see immediate gains from a Cornyn endorsement.
And the only gain he is concerned about in the Senate is Voter ID.
I’m convinced that is democrat/establishment propaganda. Before this race every indication was that Paxton is way more popular overall than Cornyn.
Trump should sit this one out unless he can get the save act passed for a Cornyn endorsement. Not an empty promise or even a vote. Passed into law.
Even with the baggage Paxton will almost certainly spank Opie in the general election.
Beto at least tried to look normal plus Cruz had made an ass of himself in the presidential primary and refused to campaign and still won, albeit close.

Trump has a conundrum with that endorsement. Polls show Cornyn will lose to Paxton even if Trump endorses him. Trump risks, causing a rift between him and his base in Texas, the people voting for Paxton, hate Cornyn. without a victory on the save act, endorsing Cornyn is a lose, lose situation for Trump. The only way I think Trump might endorse Cornyn, is if Congress actually goes into recess over Easter and allows recess appointments. Trump could frame his endorsement as a victory for his administration.
I think he will wait until the run-off and will endorse him if Cornyn wins, but will endorse Paxton if he wins. I hope I am right on that but have no inside knowledge, of course.
Cornyn has spent years trying to dismantle the republic with corruption. Tell me how it can get worse.
It would be disgrace if Trump endorsed him.

Basically, Cornyn has sucked the teets of the Bushes to get in office and has never stopped. If anyone is “past his time”, it’s Cornyn. To quote the late Jesse Jackson “Stay Outta Da Bushes!”.
If that’s true, why is Trump going to endorse the Rino.
