Desperate Karen Bass slashes LA filming fees in bid to boost struggling Hollywood

In a desperate bid to stop Tinseltown from trekking to cheaper pastures, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is taking a chainsaw to the red tape and high costs of filming at some of the city’s most famous landmarks.

Bass announced last week that the city will slash filming fees at the iconic Griffith Observatory by 70% — dropping the daily price tag from $100,000 to a more manageable $30,000.

The move effectively rolls back costs to 2008 levels, signaling a massive retreat from the 2022 fee hikes that may have helped drive production out of state.

A lot more people would be impressed if she did the same for home building in the palisades.

Why should they pay anything outside of the extra costs to city government incurred by the filming that can not be large? A few extra traffic cops and some barricades to keep the filming are clear.

With CGI connected to AI and a greenscreen... You can shoot a movie in your basement and make it look like any place on earth... No fees, taxes or permissions needed.

$30,000 for Griffith Observatory? Heck, dig op the stock footage and fire up the AI.

You really don’t even need the basement or actors anymore...if you have enough money to buy the credits, that is, which aren’t cheap for a layman.

Too late. They can AI generate iconic sites. The stories are old, hackneyed crap.....
AI can write a script and generate actors, scenes, music, and fake publicity
Hollywood is done. Cool in the 40s, 50’s, 60’s....moribund thereafter. Now...dead...

Hollywood died of DEI over a decade ago.

Read books, lest your brain should turn to mush.

RE: Read books, lest your brain should turn to mush.

The great original 1960 movie The Time Machine has a scene where Rod Taylor questions the weakling Eloi in the future about ways to rebuild the lost civilization were built.

The guy takes him to a library room. “Booooks? We have boooks.”

The Time Traveler is impressed and goes to pick up some but they crumble into triangles and strips of dusty dry pages and are all useless.

Sweetener is she offered herself as a major star and will then guarantee the monetary deal.
