nergy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday said there will be a “surge of investment” in the Middle East after the Iranian regime is “defanged.”
Wright has been a frequent face on television this week as he makes the case that the short-term increases in energy costs will be worthwhile by reducing Iran’s long-term ability to interfere with oil export routes in the Middle East.
“At the end of the day, after we’ve defanged the Iranian regime to cause trouble in the world, you will see a surge of investment in the Middle East,” Wright said during a Wednesday appearance on NewsNation’s “Cuomo.”
“You’ll see commerce and peace break out and massive expansion in energy production, just like we’ve done in the United States,” he added.
Wright acknowledged that the price of oil, gas and natural gas have spiked but echoed the Trump administration’s sentiments that the cost increase would only last for a few weeks until the conflict in Iran subsides.
President Trump has suggested a four-to-five-week timeline for the war, however, both the timeline and objectives have shifted over the past 12 days since it started.
A bottleneck in the Strait of Hormuz, which transports a fifth of the world’s oil per day, has rattled global markets and led to the largest price increases since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
After Israeli strikes on its oil refineries, Iranian leaders said the world can expect to see the price of crude oil double.
“Get ready for oil to be $200 a barrel, because the oil price depends on regional security, which you have destabilized,” Ebrahim Zolfaqari, a spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. (IRGC) Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, told Reuters.
Crude oil prices topped $100 per barrel overnight Wednesday before easing slightly on Thursday morning.
Wright told CNN it was “unlikely” that prices reach the $200 benchmark, but reiterated that any jump would be a short-term market reaction.
Trump on Thursday morning suggested that higher oil prices could be a good thing for the United States.
“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money. BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World,” the president wrote in a Thursday Truth Social post.
“I won’t ever let that happen!”

What does that mean?!?
What access to or ability to use particular weapons does defanging include? How many and which Iranians will need to be eliminated in order to assure Iran will not regrow or be supplied with a new set of fangs? And how many weeks (months? years?) will it take to accomplish this defanging?
What’s the nightlife like in Iraq? They were defanged years ago. How’s the bike paths and girls schools working out over there?
I think that Venezuela perhaps gave a false sense of the ease of regime change.

Could be. Lord knows I want it to succeed, but you simply cannot kick in the door and expect the whole structure to crumble.
What the Hell is he talking about? Is he saying that he is comfortable that the regime won’t be able to start producing drones again in the short term? Because if they can, they will start lobbing them into the Gulf States and shipping lanes to cause chaos and we’ll be back to bombing Iran again.
That’s exactly right. The moment I saw Maduro being kidnapped and escorted to the US I knew that it was a big loss for the US because it would result in such hubris, chest beating and groupthink that the US would immediately embark on a quixotic and ruinous adventure, biting off way more than it could chew, either directly in Ukraine or in Taiwan or Iran. So Iran it is. We are spectators now and it’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Even tactical nucleus strikes won’t open the hormuz but it’s not gonna stop the department of war from seriously considering it.

As a citizen of a Nation I grew up in and love, If I voted for and support the current President and believe that President Trump is doing the right thing, then I must trust him. His performance/dedication/devotion to the job of carrying the nation on his shoulders while dodging bullets and having his wife subject to strip search ( LIVE ON TV) is beyond question.
HE COULD set up committees,have them produce documentation of our past, present, and future plans for ending this war. Have hardcopies made and distributed to every citizen. Cost $5.00 per person. ID needed. Take about a year to complete.
OR, we could trust him. If ever there was a time, we need to have a little faith.
So, we're looking at record high prices for barrel of oil? Higher prices for gasoline than under Biden? Biden era inflation?
The price completely driven by the closing of the Strait of Hormuz and damage being done to the oil infrastructure in the gulf states.
We weeks, not months, to militarily solve them. And, the odds of us being able to do that are not very good.
We only have weeks, not months or years.
Trump will have no choice to find an exit ramp, by any deal necessary, to end this if oil goes above $150 a barrel.
I paid $3.39 two days ago and I'm in Upstate NY.
I would say the price is even lower than $150 a barrel. I would say a sustained $115 a barrel price will do it.
I thought it was an exemption to the rule.
It was done swiftly with no hitches, no injuries, no casualties which is an exception as far as the history of our government.
The bike paths circle the missile launching sites and the girl's schools are built next to IRGC command centers.
This company has played an important role in the industrial development of this country. When you consider that probably 70%++ of the military aircraft used in the NECESSARY DESTRUCTION OF AN AMERICA/FREEDOM HATING RADICAL ISLAMIC STATE, WERE & ARE POWERED BY GE ENGINES, GE STILL IS - AND WILL REMAIN - A MAJOR MILITARY DEFENSE PLAYER.
Instead of REWARDING them for their role in this UNAVOIDABLE action, GE is being punished for their participation...in the STOCK MARKET here!
