Not satisfied with being commander-in-chief, Donald Trump has become the White House’s very own shoe salesman.
The US president has been buying his favourite shoes for his staff so frequently that they have become the unofficial White House uniform.
One female White House official told the Wall Street Journal: “All the boys have them. It’s hysterical because everybody’s afraid not to wear them.”
Mr Trump has fallen in love with Florsheim, a brand that sells some pairs for as little as $49.90 (£37.27) – a far cry from his expensive Brioni suits.
The president has been buying the shoes for agency heads and members of Congress. He often speaks about how “incredible” they are.
Such is Mr Trump’s devotion to the brand, that he guesses people’s shoe size in front of them, puts in the order, and a week later it turns up, sometimes with the president’s signature on the box.
That includes one unnamed cabinet secretary who had to stop wearing his Louis Vuittons and put on a pair of Florsheims instead.
Among those who have a pair of Trump-approved Florsheims are JD Vance, the vice-president, Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, Pete Hegseth, the defence secretary, and Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary.
Mr Trump’s friends, Fox News personality Sean Hannity and Senator Lindsey Graham, also have a pair each.

Yeah I remember that song. ha ha
My parents visited the Soviet Union during the cold war. Checkpoint security at airports was pretty cold pardon the pun. Can’t imagine what you went through.
My dad too — his Florsheim wingtips were ancient, probably purchased back in the late ‘40s or early ‘50s.
Hey Gator, I feel your pain. I still have our first grocery bill from the weekend we married, my daughters baby bed and bassinet (that our son used when he came along), their first books from kindergarten and all of Hub’s honors and belts, uniforms from 30 years on the street as a LEO.......I’m a sentimental fool. I hope our kids see these things as as precious as their father and I did. We’ve got 2 great grands coming in June and October and I hope we live to see them and they get old enough to remember us. God has blessed us so much during the years and I hope they carry on the family name as proudly as we have......
And I can remember darning my socks for school...now...I have a drawer full of socks...and don't give a darn...(clever?)
Zappa ping kudos!
Great song, influenced surely by Roger Miller (King of the Road— talked/sung about a hobo Count No-Count).
Ragpicker’s Dream is one of Knopfler’s best, stemming from his friendship with Chet Atkins.
You’d like this version (which Knopfler acknowledged as “they own this song!”) of “Marbletown” (a hobo song about where to sleep at night- the cemetery by the rail line. We got a man down here— the Bulls would call out and... many times kill them while rolling in the country).

What a writer
Trying to remember— movin’ to Montana gonna grow some dental floss.... or something like that. Zappa’s lyrics were clever, sometimes very.
“Now is that a Sears poncho or a real poncho?..... we did it until we were unchoncho!”.
I kept my Florsheim Imperials from 1969 I bought when I worked briefly for US Shoe. They are really fancy wingtips.
Passing through a short tunnel found the East Germans and their Soviet overseer barely looking at my pass while striving hard to stay awake - no search or static at all though I noted that my picture was taken.
Once on the street I saw how run-down and dreary that side of Berlin was compared to the vibrant free side. Nearly every block had some structure that had gone without repair since being bombed during WWII.
My uniform served as a Scarlet Letter warning the citizens to keep their distance. As mentioned before there was a low-level Stasi guy trying to follow me around without my knowing. The residents would furtively look at me then look behind me before scuttling away, totally defeating the effort at stealth.
But I'm nattering off-subject on this thread about President Trump's generosity with footwear, which is bad form.
That is what I was thinking. If they didn’t want to wear them, they’d tell PDJT. He probably ask why not, and refute any reason they gave, but BFD. If they can’t respond effectively as to why they don’t want them, wear them.
Those were Sunday only shoes.
Rumor has it that Studebaker Hawke is inline for a consulting position with with the current administration. An (ahem!) unnamed government spokesperson has posited that Studebaker Hawke will Join Elon Musk as undercover investigators of crime, fraud, misfeasance, malfeasance, muckraking, mudslinging, masturbation, mistreatment, matriculation, fornication, cohabitation, mahjong, nepotism, obstructionism, procrastination, Quislingation, recreation, subordination, turpitude, un-Americanism, vituperation, wimperishness, yakkety-yakking, and Zoarostrianistic tendencies in the greater inland empire.
“Howard Johnson’s! Wanna get some clams?”

His best shoes are the sh***y ones from kicking ass a lot.
At 75 there were a lot of things I wish I had kept.
Approaching 80 I am starting to wonder what to do with some of the things I did keep.
My kids are the epitome of “order” and I’ve told them that after Hub and I are gone I expect them to have a big dumpster delivered and throw everything away....they tell me they wouldn’t do that....(I don’t believe them) LOL
They used to all wear Allen edmonds

When my mother died my brother kept the house. My sister wanted to keep a lot of my mother’s things ... as long as my brother would store them in the house.
We did leave some things on her driveway.
The switch over for Asian manufacture sure affected the formerly great brands like NB. For example, having a great pair of Merrill mountain hiking shoes (all US made) now for more than 12 years of hiking/hunting rugged trail use. The new “same” models are all made in Asia (Vietnam is better than China at any rate). Tough on people surviving. One poster here tugged an idea— to find and rehab really good shoes, and re-sell, and looking into that.
In the past there have been a few discoveries of WWII leather paratrooper boots, discarded in warehouse or some such. That would be a find if in crates and sealed. Rodents will eat leather for the wax and oil.
Perhaps E-Bay might be the source for the older, correctly made shoes. I dislike dealing with it because there's really no recourse should one get scammed.

While in Frankfurt I'd attend this massive 'volksmarket' held in the city's main square each month. To my surprise many vendors specialized in German military items, including Nazi gear of all sorts. After months of haggling with a wily old coot I paid the mark equivalent of $150 for a beautiful long leather overcoat that weighed almost 10 pounds by itself.
It had belonged to a Nazi SS officer. After much diligent treatment with saddle soap, conditioner and dye it looked great again. Shipped it home and some sorry SOB stole it.
I didn't want it for the (evil) legacy; I wanted it because it was a sharp piece of craftsmanship no one makes anymore.
