President Donald Trump is vowing to block all other legislation until the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act passes the Senate — his hardest push yet for a controversial bill which, among other things, would require strict voter ID in order to register to vote.
In a Sunday morning post to Truth Social, Trump — while lauding pro-MAGA activist Scott Pressler’s appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend — threatened to use the talking filibuster (which would require Democrats to speak continuously on the floor in order to delay a vote) to push the legislation through.
“Great Job by hard working Scott Pressler on Fox & Friends talking about using the Filibuster, or Talking Filibuster, in order to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, an 88% issue with ALL VOTERS,” Trump wrote. “It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY, TRAVEL.”
Proponents of the bill argue, as Trump did, that voter ID laws are widely popular with Americans. But critics argue the ID requirements in the SAVE act are far more restrictive than many Americans realize, and its passage would lead to wide disenfranchisement.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has committed to maintaining a 60-vote threshold and has said that he cannot even get a simple majority of 50 to agree upon the procedural tactic required to move forward.

I thought the Republicans said that early on during the Trump presidency. It makes sense to cut them off unless you’re planning on betraying the American people for the oligarchs enrichment.
The people of California cut off the benefits by referendum in the 1990s, and the Federal court ruled that that was unconstitutional.
That ruling was not appealed by the State of California, so it stands as law.

That’s odd. Kansas is a voter ID state, and we have only one paper ballot.
Is it voter ID to vote, or to register? Somebody pointed out that in FL you have to have voter ID to vote, but when I looked up the info regarding FL it said that as with all the states because of judges’ rulings, no voter ID is required to REGISTER to vote. That means that the voter rolls are bloated with non-eligible “voters” and the vote tabulators can use those registered voters for mail-in ballots, etc. Sometimes the only way fraud is known is because voter turnout is 110% of those registered. But if they had 10% more people registered there wouldn’t be those discrepancies to prove the fraud. Also, with no voter ID required to register, fake ID’s can be made up to match the non-eligible voters to vote, unless the precincts are able to check the ID’s against a legit database and the database only includes citizens (which isn’t the case in places like CA where they issue driver’s licenses to non-citizens and automatically register them to vote at the same time; right there they have everything they need to be able to vote even if ID was required to vote, even though they are non-citizens). If it’s just showing an ID those can easily be made up by fraudsters. And especially if there’s just a photocopy of an ID sent in with a mail-in ballot
