Meanwhile the Stray cats - who wrote and played authentic rock and roll and Larry Williams - who wrote and played authentic rock and roll are still NOT in the "Faux and roll" hall of fame. What a joke.
What’s that you say?
No King Crimson OR Leo Kottke in the R&RHF after all this time?
Indeed!
After MY first recording? I sound like a bullfrog with a sore throat.
I forgot about the Stray Cats. I had a cassette of theirs. Solid.
If I had my way, XTC would be in.
I’ve never heard of most of those acts.
Authentic rock and roll:
Dizzy, Miss Lizzie--Larry Williams (1958)
Yawn.
Iron Maiden?
No Jethro Tull again !?!
With ya!
Might have to start a riot like we did with Alice Cooper
Metallica is still p-ssed.
Blue Öyster Cult.
Black Crowes - No
Jeff Buckley - Maybe
Mariah - No
Phil Collin - Yes
Melissa Etheridge - No
Lauryn Hill - No
Billy Idol - Yea
INXS - Maybe
Iron Maiden - Yes
Joy Division - Yes
New Order - Maybe
New Edition - No
Oasis - Yes
PINK - Not Yet
Sade - No
Shakira - Don’t know anything about her.
Luther VanDross - No
Wu-Tang Clan - No
No Jam, XTC, Robert Fripp, The Guess Who, Tull?
Joy Division - Yes, because of their influence.
Why not just rename themselves the Pop-Music Hall of Fame. For most of these entrants, the closest they’d come to rock is driving on the asphalt.
Maybe Vandross, for his work with David Bowie on Young Americans.
Yes, that guy influenced just about every big name in the 1960s, they all did covers of his songs, and he’s totally ignored. MADONNA is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame but Larry Williams isn’t? Madonna is freakin’ lip syncing disco karaoke
Place is a joke at this point.
Iron Maiden - No brainer.
The Black Crowes - Ok.
Phil Collins - Great musician, but rock and roll?
Oasis - Maybe?
New Edition - CANCEL THE AWARDS SHOW. NOW.
More than any other nominee, Iron Maiden is most deserving.
This band remains a pioneering force in progressive hard rock/classic heavy metal. The number of staples that they’ve written is mind-boggling:
Wrathchild
Killers
Phantom of the Opera
The Number of the Beast
Powerslave
2 Minutes to Midnight
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Run to the Hills
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
The Trooper
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden
Aces High
Fear of the Dark
Wasted Years
The Wickerman
And more. Their last album sold very well. ALBUM….not a bunch of mp3s.
These guy play stadiums, year after year. Bassist and chief songwriter Steve Harris’ galloping bass is legendary. Singer Bruce Dickinson still belts it out AND pilots their tour airplane. Long-time drummer (and Born-Again Christian) Nicko McBrain just retired, while the triple-guitar attack of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers is unrivaled.
Maybe Billy Idol and INXS can join Maiden onstage for the end of night jam. The rest can sod off.
