Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold restock sold out in minutes Despite being $2,899.99 for the 512GB model, it sold out quickly — again.

Samsung unleashed a new batch of Galaxy Z TriFold units after selling out initial stock of the behemoth foldable that turns into a 10-inch tablet. It took less than ten minutes to sell through today’s supply, which either speaks to the phone’s surprising popularity or, rather, just how few of them the company is making. The device launched on January 30th, and unlike most other Samsung phones, availability of this one was limited to the company’s own site.

The TriFold costs $2,899.99 and comes with 512GB of storage (you’d think paying this much would get you at least 1TB, but alas). It’s essentially three phones in one; one when it’s folded, another when it opens to double the screen real estate, and ultimately, in its final form is as a large tablet that makes multitasking easier than with vastly inferior (joking) single-hinge foldables.

While my colleague Allison Johnson waited for our review unit to show up, she had a surprisingly good time with using the Z Fold 7 as a fold-out portable computer when paired with a wireless keyboard. It seems safe to say that using the TriFold, with its extra screen real estate, would make this kind of setup even better. Whether it’s nearly $1,000 better, though, is a question that only you can answer with your wallet.

This is a phone that unfolds into tablet sized. Which is much more readable that text on phone. So means that next time you will not screw up your internet banking. So if you have an extra $3000 lying around.....

Nice phones but a Verizon rep told me the screens don’t hold up well to a lot of fold-unfold cycles.

I'm with you.

I touch my phone maybe once per day. It's not part of my life.

I bought a folding phone and was under the impression they had time tested it for screen durability. Low and behold a green line and a black dot right at the crease turned into an entire black screen and of course it was out of the 1 year warranty. I paid good $ and will never do so again. Everything manufactured today is disposable. I can’t think of one company that sells anything based upon a quality that lasts, from cars/trucks to electronics. This is why you see the surge back to older cars and stereos etc.... No way will this item last more than 2 years if it is used regularly .

"No way will this item last more than 2 years if it is used regularly."

Agree. Samsung will probably iterate the hell out of it while stepping up production as they'll be overwhelmed at some point on warranty. Thinking here is that people will only fully extend into phablet once a day, and it will spend 90% of its time in phone mode.

That said, gimme gimme gimme the iPhone Fold.

I was looking at the Motorola Razr a couple years ago — it folds similar to the old flip phones. The Verizon guy said that there were major integrity issues where the phone folds, so I passed on it. I figure it takes a couple years for the bugs to be worked out.

I miss my old Motorola V60S flip phone. It looked beautiful and the sound was amazing. (Now it’s “vintage” - LOL!)
