President Donald Trump raged over some disappointing economic news shortly before his Commerce Department delivered it to the public on Friday morning.
“The Democrat Shutdown cost the U.S.A. at least two points in GDP. That’s why they are doing it, in mini form, again. No Shutdowns!” declared the president in a 7:50 a.m. Truth Social post.
“Also, LOWER INTEREST RATES. ‘Two Late’ Powell is the WORST!!!,” he added.
Less than an hour later, his administration announced that the United States’ GDP grew at an annualized rate of 1.4% in the fourth quarter of 2025. The 43-day government shutdown last fall was expected to affect the figure, but experts at Dow Jones nevertheless expected the economy to grow at a yearly clip of 2.5%.
Trump has spent the entirety of his second term laying into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for failing to lower interest rates as quickly as Trump had advocated, and his Department of Justice has even launched a criminal investigation into Powell ahead of his term’s expiration as chairman in May. Powell has called that investigation a pretext.
“The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the president,” he argued in a video statement last month. “This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.”
This month’s GDP news comes after an encouraging inflation report, but amid widespread discontent with the economy among the public.

GDP dropped last quarter because the government was shut down for several weeks. A reduction in government purchases and spending had a large negative effect on the GDP numbers. Private spending was actually pretty good.
“....the most notable variable was government spending, which due to the government shutdown in Q4 tumbled by 5.1% - the biggest drop since covid - and subtracted 0.9% from the final GDP number.”
You seem overjoyed by this.

The numbers weren’t terrible. The White House reaction was a bit over the top.

Admin needs to have Vance out there touring all these small business being created and saved by tariffs to bring home the idea how important they are. Every time WH talks about revenue, that's money taken away from the consumer.

There are a lot of ahos here that will be celebrating with their RAT friends this weekend. America got kicked in the teeth today and they’re loving it. They probably all have their illegal alien “neighbors” over to join the party and hire a mariachi band.

I find the timing very interesting. People are foolish if they do not see coordination. On the very same day news is delivered regarding the economy, SCOTUS delivers their decision.
Fortunately, SCOTUS made it clear the IEEPA was not the mechanism to be used for tariffs. Most of us knew it was a reach. Therefore, POTUS Trump will support his tariffs with another tool he has in the shed.
The liberal scum media is overjoyed by all of this negative news.

Whether planned or not this will keep the ball moving in his court, resets any legal challenges again as he reimposes the tariffs under a new structure / statute. Ya it is a pian and takes energy away from other things but does have some practical benefits.
I think a lot of people are totally overlooking that the ruling is VERY narrow and did not deny tariffs to the president, only the emergency mechanism her first used.
