It’s much more than just a dollars thing. It’s about people’s safety and security, and not having to look over your shoulders every time you go out. It’s quality of life.

Singapore still uses the cane. I imagine few wish to experience it a second time. Minutes of excruciating pain, followed by weeks of serious pain and then the sentence is done, except for the memory of it. The criminal is free to resume his life instead of being locked up for years.

Sure, but... the Democrats need the criminals to ‘run free’... because so far, the criminals are not allowed to vote for Democrats while incarcerated. And besides... the Democrats couldn’t care less about how much anything costs US taxpayers. The more the better is their mantra.
