About three weeks ago I had what seemed to me to be a serious stroke. I considered it quite likely I was not long for this world.
But medical technology has come ahead in leaps and bounds and I'm considered close to recovered at this point.
If you're having concerns about your health, see your Doctor. I didn't. If I had, I might have not needed to go through what I did.
Scary, glad you’re still here.
I had Vertigo last month, so bad I had to be hospitalized for weeks. They did an MRI, said it wasn’t a stroke but top of brain looks dry. Drink more water.
Daughter is almost sure I had a stroke, taking me for more brain tests. First appt with neurologist was great, he did a lot of brain function tests and thinks I’m fine. At my age, 89, it’s normal t forget a few things....but not too many.
Hellsbells, I forgot a few things when I was 20.
Hang in there, natural man. Life is fun. A few weeks ago, I saw on Nightly News a 105-year-olld WW2 vet visiting Trump. He looked great, used a walker but stood up straight.
God bless you, NM! May your recovery be total... and do what the doc (and your wife, LOL) says.
I had my stroke about two years ago.
I woke up and half my vision was gone. Everything on the left side was white, like a flash had gone off. If I covered my right eye, the left side was white. If I covered my left eye, the left side was white.
I Googled the symptoms. It said I was either having a stroke or I had a brain tumor. Either way, go to the hospital...now.
We did. They did some screenings - I showed no symptoms of a stroke other than my vision - so they set up a CT scan to check out what they were certain was my brain tumor. They said it wouldn’t be able to detect a stroke, if one existed.
Funny that...my stroke was so massive that it did show up on the CT scan. Worse, because they had no idea when my stroke actually occurred, they couldn’t give me any of the cool nifty keen drugs that reverse the damage.
I was told that my situation had no protocol. They couldn’t even give me blood thinners because it may make the bleeding worse. They did do a contrasting dye scan which gave them a really good look at what they couldn’t do anything about.
They kept me in the hospital for three days and then sent me home, half blind, with a prescription for blood thinners. Yay.
I did some research and discovered there were some vision exercises I could do to improve my situation. Two years later I have recovered about 80% of what was lost. I still get really nasty headaches, and I have a persistent blind spot, but otherwise you would never know I had a stroke.
Health problems are terrifying. I hope you continue to heal. Hugs!
A friend of mine was talking gibberish and about getting some metal siding from the moon.
I became concerned because every question resulted in a non-sensical answer.
Called another friend, told her my suspicion, she asked a couple questions and he made no sense in English or Spanish.
She told me to call 911 immediately.
EMS showed up and except for being confused as to why they were there and why called them he suddenly seemed fine mentally and on the tests.
Everyone came to the same conclusion, possible TIA.
He has not visited a doctor since(two months ago) and is now very distant.
The friend that told me to call 911 says “Don’t worry. You did the right thing.
Don’t go anywhere.
You ain’t old enough to leave this rock...
Thank God, HalleluYah!
My 27 year old daughter had a stroke in her brain stem.
End of July last year. 1 week in ICU, 2 weeks in rehab hospital. She was able to go back to work in January, but still has some limitations. Scared the hell out of my wife and I.
Wow! I didn't know that was possible. Good for you!
Am so glad your recovery is going well!
Congrats and good luck. My experience was similar - clot buster miracle drug within 3 hours (prob a bit under 2). Within two days I was walking around with minimal adult supervision with only a slight intermittent drift to starboard.
I had read the brain can sometimes be retrained to wire itself around bad spots, so I embarked on a determined program focusing on straight line walking. 100% recovery in under a week; no PT; no further treatment for 18 months. You got this one.
Good luck; keep us updated on your progress.
I had what they called an eye stroke. Lost most of my vision in my right eye but not totally blind. I am curious about the eye exercises. Not sure if it will help me at this point but I would try voodoo if it helped.
Every year thousands of men die from stubbornness.
Such experiences are liberating. 😎
So sorry to hear that ... 27 is much too young, not that any age is a good age for a stroke.
God bless and heal her ... glad she is doing well enough to go back to work.
Did she have any related issues prior to her stroke?
We know someone who had what they called an ‘eye stoke’, as well.
They were getting injections 1/mo ... but, those didn’t seem to be helping.
Yes...eye exercises that may help would be great to know and pass along.
Best wishes with your vision situation. I’ve read interesting articles about DMSO helping with some eye diseases.
No she didn’t. She was at a chiropractor who was working on her head and neck with the blood vessel tore. Her boyfriend is an EMT and recognized the problem right away and drove her to the very hospital where she works. It was an intense couple of weeks, but now she is doing much better.
PTL that her boyfriend recognized and got quick help.
We hear about these strokes and heart issues in younger and younger people, it seems. :-(
praise God!
My cousin and my sister had similar events, but they weren’t strokes or TIAs. I think the acronym has a “G” in it.
They were “out of it” for a few hours, unaware of what they were doing or saying, and they lost that time. They conversed with others, but didn’t make much sense.
He didn’t remember the previous 3 hours...
