It's probably best to begin by letting everyone know that this column isn't about politics. Whenever I write anything about the National Football League, my comments section is stormed by an army of conservative keyboard warriors who, in their Colin Kaepernick-filled rage, are all too eager to unload on Roger Goodell and the organization over which he presides.
Trust me, dear readers, I have plenty of bad things to say about Roger Goodell, but they're mostly about the game of football. My lament comes from a place of deep, lifelong fandom and is triggered by the fact that I don't believe that the NFL is very much about the game of football anymore.
That's kind of a dig at Goodell. We're off to a good start.

Found World Cup completely by accident in the 90’s. Haven't missed it since.
A full 45 minutes without commercial break.And countries and fans that have been trying to kill each other for a century playing each other without weapons every 4 years.

I think it’s coming. They will do “Hydration Breaks” in the middle of a half. I suspect eventually they will make it permanent, just as they keep increasing the number of substitutions during a game.

Sucks. No doubt. I still get to at least 3-4 college games a year.
Professional sports in person I quit last year. It’s terrible.

The NFL game became prohibitively boring years before the idiots knelt. Too many commercials, not enough game action, referees control the outcome because they can call a penalty on virtually every play if they want to. Level of play seems to have regressed for many years, probably because of the increase in penalties. Gambling interests mean more to game outcomes than player performance. I have no reason to or interest in watching, and certainly no interest in some Puerto Rican weirdo halftime act. And the commercials are boring also.

Yeah, if you call that action. They could run commercials over the game and no one would notice.
I haven’t cared about football since the mid 80s and pretty much sports in general.
For a couple of years there was a period of abject hatred for all sports. Long story from different life in TV production.
Now it’s between not caring and sometimes hating them.

I’m not going to watch any sporting event that virtually NO ONE playing it who I’d want my children to emulate, either in sports or real life. It’s not much different from “The Longest Yard” conducted outside prison walls.

Years ago went to a College basketball game (USF) on a Saturday night, the game wasn’t televised - started at 7:30 and was over before 9:00. The way games should be played...
Soccer is boring as hell.
A group of us tried watching a big championship game and we were so bored.
Turned it to MLB, much happier.
I’d rather watch fishing championships or log rolling than that commie kickball.
I think the Hallmark channel is full of mind numbing drivel.
When forced to watch part of one movie, I went home and put on a John Wick movie to get that crap out of my head.

I can only imagine how frustrating that must have been. Golf is only sport I care about and even the best players make plays that only a miracle would help cameraman/director get right. I’m actually aware of that during games.
Since you posted that my daughter gave me a new reason for hating football. I’m taking a friend to her house for the big game tomorrow. They both enjoy it .
Phone rang. Daughter wants me to go to store and pick up some nice fruit and veggie trays Safeway makes BUT they don’t take phone orders. And always gone by game day.
