Last week’s article in this series on color revolutions discussed the Iranian Coup of 1953, code-named Operation Ajax. The 1953 Coup, conducted by the CIA and M16, was successful in overthrowing the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammed Mosaddegh, who was determined to resist British and American exploitation of its oil. That coup strengthened the authority of the Shah of Iran, who was friendly to the West.

Far from being a man of the people, Mohammad Mossadegh Ol’Saltaneh (Ol’saltaneh meaning “of the monarch,” a prevalent Qajar princely title) was born into the ruling Qajar dynasty—one of the so-called “One Thousand Families” that dominated Iran for centuries. A feudal landlord and prince, Mossadegh enjoyed the fruits of privilege while claiming to represent popular interests. Contrary to popular Western narrative of having been “democratically elected by the people,” his appointment to prime minister in 1951 was through parliamentary maneuvering and royal approval by the Shah.

You got it right: this article is recycled Soviet-era Cold War propaganda. The USSR had agreed to pull out of Iran at the end of World War II but continued to occupy it after the war ended. General Eisenhower scared them into pulling out by leading them to believe we had twice as many nuclear weapons as we did, but they continued to subvert Iran through Mossadegh and Communist groups that supported him, while supporting the myth that he was “democratically elected”, as this article claims. As for America’s Future, it used to be run by John Singlaub, an OSS/CIA covert operator who ironically used to run the Iran-Contra network this article is complaining about, which underscores how the intelligence community has drifted since Clinton. The Koch Brothers have been funding them in recent years, IIRC.
