Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, on Monday threatened jail time for anyone who enters the capital with a gun.
In remarks on Fox News that could deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration, Ms. Pirro declared that if anyone brings “a gun into the District, you mark my words, you’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else.”
Her remarks prompted swift pushback from the Republican Party’s pro-Second Amendment wing, which was thrown into a cycle of confusion and frustration over comments from President Trump and some in his administration after Alex Pretti, a licensed gun owner, was shot by federal immigration agents last month during a protest in Minneapolis.
The shooting has fueled debate among conservatives over the administration’s vacillating posture toward lawful gun ownership. After the shooting, Mr. Trump and some senior administration officials sought to blame Mr. Pretti for carrying a concealed firearm during the protest.
“I don’t like that he had a gun, I don’t like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that’s a lot of bad stuff,” Mr. Trump said last week in Iowa.
Ms. Pirro’s remarks caught the attention of several Republican lawmakers, including Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a U.S. Army veteran, who said on social media that he travels into Washington from his home district every week with a firearm. “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Mr. Steube wrote. “Come and Take it!”

It's not just the 2nd Amendment but also the equal protection under the 14th Amendment. National reciprocity exists for current and retired law enforcement - "Rules for thee, but not for me." Retirees can't argue they're carrying in the line of duty, and once every state agreed to that, everyone else has the same reciprocity. EVERYONE else.
Bureaucrats in California honor permits for current and retired law enforcement. "Rules for thee but not for me."
By honoring those but not others, California bureaucrats are violating the equal protection under the 14th Amendment.
Yes, foolish. At the risk of confusing the thread, since it seems to concentrate on CCL, a reminder it's illegal to possess a firearm in DC without a permit. Yes, transportation through under federal law is OK complying with the rules. Remember not to stop for lunch with an old friend.
~~~ The U.S. Attorney for D.C. holds a unique dual role serving as the chief federal prosecutor for federal crimes in the District, and also serving as the chief prosecutor for local D.C. municipal crimes, including violations of D.C. Code gun laws.
This is because D.C. is not a state and lacks its own elected district attorney or state-level prosecutor's office.
Jeanine Pirro is legally obligated to enforce applicable laws within her jurisdiction, as enforcement is part of the core duties of the office.
And D.C. does not recognize any permit from any state. Same with California, New York, Hawaii and others.
It is not right but it is the law, currently.
This is female “emotion” raising it’s ugly head. Again.
The Slimes is suddenly pro 2A!
No more “gun free zones”.
Stuff it. He’s right.
Of course not, but the way to fight it is in the courts and not bringing guns into DC, how will that help? Pirro is stating a fact, if caught breaking DC gun laws you will be prosecuted.
I abhor DC gun laws, but she is currently legally obligated to enforce them, regardless of any female emotions.
I have always felt that she is a little nutty. And she’s also a New Yorker, which means her default position is anti-gun.
Ditto. Last visit was 2013 for the 4/15 rally. NEVER going back.
Even worse, she sounds completely uninformed
Pirro let herself get emotional in that response, rather than calmly stating that DC has no firearm permit reciprocity at the current time. Republicans have enough of a struggle with midterm election voter turn-out; the administration can't have its people speaking carelessly and feeding the Left's information ops with ready-made sound bites.
I think her default position is pro-pinot grigio.
I enter the capital realm with my checkbook. Author means, “goes in to the Capitol, in to the Capitol”.
There are some places you should not take a firearm even though you legally can.
Same reason you should not swim with 40 lb of weight lifting weights strapped to you even though you legally can.
None of them are anti-gun. She, like the rest of them, are anti-gun if it isn't in her service.
She wants lots of guns, along with agents of the State ready to use them against anyone other than herself.
Don’t believe the enemy! Don’t fall for their manipulations.,
No, she’s not. Prosecutorial discretion. A prosecutor can elect to not enforce an unconstitutional law or dismiss charges in the interests of justice. The “just following orders” excuse doesn’t work here.
