If you win with a bad team, you are a great coach.
If you win with Tom Brady, you may deserve to be in the HOF, but I’m not sure you are “the greatest”.
“If you win with Tom Brady, you may deserve to be in the HOF, but I’m not sure you are “the greatest”.”
You can go around in circles all day with that reasoning. Because Tom Brady had Edelman and Gronk receiving, does that mean he’s not the GOAT? W/L versus ERA in baseball is more clear cut, no one looks at W/L anymore because if your offense is bad, you’re not going to win many games.
If Drew Bledsoe doesn’t get badly injured, Brady doesn’t start, and the rest of history is different. Remember, the year before, Belichick didn’t want Brady until the sixth round, so it looks like he just lucked out big time after a debacle as head coach of the Browns and a minor stint with the Giants. Not saying he didn’t learn from his mistakes and didn’t win all those titles, but…his players did it on the field.
Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different non-HOF QBs.
