We called the slow cooled lava “blue rock”. Not sure of the Hawai’ian name. Very hard stuff.

Close, but not the same. Both basalt though.

Weathering: While some fresh pāhoehoe can have a shiny or blue-glassy appearance (especially at the base of tumuli), this color often weathers to a duller black or rusty brown over time.
In summary, blue rock is a subset of dense basaltic lava (which can include pāhoehoe) specifically favored for construction due to its strength
