The family of a Canadian backpacker who was found dead on a heritage-listed tourist destination in Queensland, Australia, has been given the preliminary findings from her autopsy.

The body of Piper James, 19, was found on Seventy Five Mile Beach on K’gari (Fraser Island) just after 5 a.m. Monday.

Friends of James have revealed she had told them she was going for a swim around that time.

Two passersby discovered James’ body, surrounded by a pack of dingoes.

The preliminary findings from James’ autopsy have since been delivered to her father, Todd, and his wife, Angela, with the ABC reporting a preliminary assessment indicating the dingo bites found on her body were most likely sustained after her death.

“The autopsy has found physical evidence consistent with drowning and injuries consistent with dingo bites,” a spokesperson told the broadcaster.

...

“We simply can’t confirm whether this young lady drowned or died as a result of being attacked by dingoes,” Wide Bay District Inspector Paul Algie said Thursday.

Seems odd to me that her friends didn’t hear anything.

I regret her death while backpacking in the (always hostile in summer!) Australian Outback. I hope her family recovers from her loss.

But.
If she died by drowning (submerged under water), then what kept her in the water, or what pulled her underwater and then kept her under?
Dies by exhaustion swimming away from a danger onshore?
If her corpse was mangled by dingoes, then could they get to her body if it were trapped underwater?
Even if her body refloated after death, were other predators involved -including potentially human?

Bombshell. NY Post headline. 💣

Does someone know of another FR bombshell headline in the past week. If not, our fix came from the country’s dealers just in time. Shakes, holding our midsections, wanting to get enough energy to sink down to sit on the curb waiting for the dealer.

Sad. Underscores the vulnerability that the cryptic nacissism that many intelligent, inquisitive young people possess and allows them to enter and enjoy dangerous situations. “Nothing bad could ever really happen to me.” Most times they end up with a great experience but often the get a Darwin award.

Drowning is often very silent.

If she had been attacked by dingoes there would have been lot of noise.

Got tired, got a cramp, dove in and hit the water wrong any number of things can happen. That is why it is generally considered wise to have a swim buddy.

None of the above.

“Drowning is often very silent.”

Nothing to indicate she was in the water.

The drowning could have been due to simple mishap, a rip current, undertow, or even a toxic reaction to venom from a jellyfish sting or the like. Her body would have naturally floated and could have easily been drawn ashore by wave action.

Paul McCartney’s wife (2002-2008) Heather Mills lost her leg to amputation after a police motorcycle damaged it in a chase. She learned that many children step on landmines in former war zones and lose their feet or legs.

She and McCartney raised money for landmine removal projects. Adopt a Minefield charity beginning in 2000s. Sadly, similar to Minneapolis, there have been allegations that some of the millions went to offices of that charity that “ceased to exist” according to court records.

There is still an Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement at the State Department.

Just click on the keyword "bombshell":

FYI & FWIW, sometimes the reference to "bombshell" appears in the text, comments, my imagination, etc., rather than the actual headline...
