2026 Oscar Nominations
NYT ^ | 1/22/26 | Shivani Gonzalez and Kellina Moore

Posted on 01/22/2026 12:46:45 PM PST by Borges

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning. Leading the pack was “Sinners,” with a record-breaking 16 nominations, including best picture, best director for Ryan Coogler and best actor for Michael B. Jordan. “One Battle After Another” received one nomination after another for a total of 13, also including best picture, best director for Paul Thomas Anderson and best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Timothée Chalamet is in the running for best actor as well for “Marty Supreme,” which would make him one of the youngest best actor winners after Adrien Brody’s win for “The Pianist” in 2003. Also notable in the acting categories is “Sentimental Value,” with its entire main cast getting nods at four nominations: Renate Reinsve for best actress, Stellan Skarsgard for best supporting actor, and both Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for best supporting actress.

The ceremony will take place on March 15 and Conan O’Brien will be returning as the host. Below is the full list of nominees.

Who cares? I sure don’t. They can have their own circle jerk.

even as a bit of a movie snob, I found Sinners to be quite enjoyable

Not true. There was one white woman who was a former lover of one of the black guys and there were dozens of white rednecks who wanted to burn the jive joint down. ;)

The best part of Weapons was the methhead scene. I went to see it because I heard it was scary. I kept saying throughout the movie, “that wasn’t scary.”
MI The Final Reckoning and F1 were very good.

The Oscars are a liberal look at me shxt show like every other “awards” show. They’re irrelevant.

OBAA is *about* out of date attitudes and people who hold them. It’s a send up.

I took it as a comedy - DiCaprio spending the whole picture running around in his bathrobe, Sean Penn as Colonel Lockjaw (Lockjaw?! Really?) with the weirdest haircut imaginable. And the mother of the heroine is named Perfidia. I did like the Benedicio Del Toro character. But then, he's always good.

Sixteen nominations? I didn't know there were sixteen categories.

Honestly I have never even heard of this flick, and I'm quite the movie buff.

And how did Elle Fanning sneak in there among all those Scandies?

I was at the dentist office and in the chair waiting and they had a music channel playing on the tv and I said to the assistant “am I old as I do not recognize any of these singers?”

Same for the award shows. I do not know of any of the movies other then what I may pick up at websites promoting them.
I watch older shows on Pluto tv for free.

This is be the least-watched Oscars, ever.

Isn't the broadcast switching to YouTube in the near future? Tells you where they're at audience wise.

Is anyone surprised that ratings have declined? Who wants to watch a bunch of Hollywood narcissists give woke speeches while they accept awards for movies that the critics tried to persuade audiences were blockbusters? These same critics, by the way, were not even required to watch the entirety of the movies they were reviewing until recently.

Critics do not vote for the Oscars. It’s an industry award.

I will have to check out The Final Reckoning. It’s on Paramount +.
