2026 Oscar Nominations
NYT ^ | 1/22/26 | Shivani Gonzalez and Kellina Moore

Posted on 01/22/2026 12:46:45 PM PST by Borges

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning. Leading the pack was “Sinners,” with a record-breaking 16 nominations, including best picture, best director for Ryan Coogler and best actor for Michael B. Jordan. “One Battle After Another” received one nomination after another for a total of 13, also including best picture, best director for Paul Thomas Anderson and best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Timothée Chalamet is in the running for best actor as well for “Marty Supreme,” which would make him one of the youngest best actor winners after Adrien Brody’s win for “The Pianist” in 2003. Also notable in the acting categories is “Sentimental Value,” with its entire main cast getting nods at four nominations: Renate Reinsve for best actress, Stellan Skarsgard for best supporting actor, and both Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for best supporting actress.

The ceremony will take place on March 15 and Conan O’Brien will be returning as the host. Below is the full list of nominees.

Over the years you have made it clear that you love leftwing messaging, One Battle After Another delivers that and with superb timing for the left at this moment.

I hope Kate Hudson wins. She was excellent in the Neal Diamond movie.

I thought that Frankenstein was awful. Totally unfaithful to the book with ultra-lame character development. Admittedly, I taught the novel in my AP English classes for years and have a purest approach to the story.

I saw most of that movie too. I have to leave some movies early (travel arrangements), but I was ready to leave right after Kate’s character had that leg amputation. I recall thinking “They are never going to get those first good times back. This will be almost like a different movie, with that leg injury effecting the outcome of everything.”

I still enjoyed the first half. It was uplifting. This was the first time I had seen any of Kate’s acting. Kate stole every scene she was in. She has charisma. She can be quite compelling. Nobody told me!

I thought they go to YouTube in 2029? Not next year?

Anyway, ratings have declined. I wonder if none of the major TV networks wanted the Oscar’s, or didn’t want to pay what the organization wanted for the TV rights?

It’s mocking the fetishization of political violence. Did you even see it? Or just the previews? Or maybe you just wathed the opening sequence and stopped like so many have. The opening sequence plays very differently if you watch the entire film.
