State of emergency declared in multiple states as blizzard threatens to blanket 30 states and 200 million people brace for coldest storm EVER

A state of emergency was declared in several states ahead of a massive winter storm that could bring more than a foot of snow to much of the country.

More than 200 million people across parts of 30 states now face winter storm warnings from Friday through Sunday.

Meteorologists were expected to issue more within the next couple of days and upgrade some to winter storm warnings as the storm approaches.

When the blizzard hits, temperatures are expected to plunge as much as 30 degrees below normal in the Dakotas and Michigan, with the wind chill falling between 35 and 50 degrees below zero in some parts, according to the Weather Channel.

The National Weather Service now warns that 'nearly everyone east of the Rockies' will see some effect from the snow, ice or cold from Friday into early next week.

A state of emergency is now in effect in South Carolina, allowing state officials to mobilize resources, activate the National Guard and coordinate response efforts, and in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott activated the state emergency response resources on Tuesday to prepare for the storm.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein also declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, telling residents: 'A winter storm is approaching and now is the time to prepare.'

'Please get ready. Get everything you need in advance of the storm and have a plan in case your power goes out,' he urged North Carolinians, encouraging them to 'stay home and off the roads this weekend unless absolutely necessary, so first responders can do their jobs safely and effectively.'

Maryland Governor Wes Moore made a similar plea to residents as he declared a 'State of Preparedness' to boost the state's response and collaborations for potential impacts from the storm.

In New England we’re going to have what was once called plain regular old snow. 1 foot at best.

She grew up in MN.

Its not really a question of her handling it. It everyone else and available services.

People in MN dont panic buy for 4 to 8inches. They do in TN, cuz in MN we have 100s of plows, salt and salt spreaders and powerline workers exerienced in winter ops.

Not so in TN.

I detest meteorologist sensationalism. A world of untruths.

Its beautiful. Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.

But the area between Great Falls and Missoula is great too. And the little valleys in MT that run to the NW, Clark Fork River, Troy and Libby, MT.....Thompson Falls to Missoula....just wonderful.

“When living in Alaska I learned about driving in ice fog which is truly terrifying. Worse than a blizzard, IMO.”

During protracted severe weather in early 1989 the ice fog inFairbanks got so thick that you could not see a street light until you were under it and you could not see a traffic light at all.

It all comes down to the fact that colder air is more dense. As the temperture drops the time it takes for a particle to settle out increases, so you have more stuff in the air. Ice fog is primarily frozen vehicle and heating system exhaust, most of wich is water vapor. Over east of the border they call it habitation fog.

Living up in the higher ground is a good thing! An even better thing is being a retired geezer who doesn’t have to go out in it every day!

“Ice fog is primarily frozen vehicle and heating system exhaust,”

Exactly. And at night when your headlights are on, they reflect of the ice particles in the air. Impossible to see ANYTHING! I hated driving in that.

The world is full of lying fearmongers.

Corrupt prosecutors overcharge.

Stupid weather people over forecast.

What happened to all the horse pucky about last week’s Bears game being the coldest came ever and another ice bowl.

I think game time temperatures was 18 degrees which is probably average for Chicago this time of year.

We live in information age and most of the information is so oversensationalized that you have cut it down by half to get near the facts.

For every hour that I surf the world wide web I must see the term “bombshell” used ten times.

It IS winter. What do people expect in winter in the areas normally impacted by winter...70’s and sunny? Now the forecasters have thrown in so-called “exploding” trees. How many more creative ways does the worthless media have to try to make people panic and feel insecure?

Stay in your house, put on a warm blankie and take it easy. It will pass.

I’d like to see about a few days there.

Flight out and rent some wheels. I don’t have the vacation time to road trip it from SC yet.

What I would want to see is mostly the open country. I’ll take any good suggestions.

Last year we went to Colorado Springs for a few days and got in on a jeep tour through the garden of the gods. I loved it up those mountains.

Thank you for the tips.

Maybe I could swing a few days of a vacation this summer.

There is so much of this country I have never seen and want to.

I’ll take a 1 foot snowstorm over a heavy ice storm any day of the week unless it is a blizzard out in farmland communities.

How about changing the date for the March for life activities to the day that Roe v. Wade was overturned? Having attended several of the Marches in DC, I hope they continue, but there is no need to have them in January any longer.
