At least 6 Minnesota federal prosecutors resign amid pressure to treat Renee Good killing as assault on ICE agent
CBS News ^ | 1/13/2026 | Aki Nace

At least six career prosecutors in the Minneapolis U.S. Attorney's office — including Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson — have resigned as the office continues to face pressure to treat the investigation of the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an ICE officer as an assault on a federal officer case.

Thompson also previously served as the acting U.S. attorney for Minnesota; he was appointed by President Trump in June and served in the position until October. He resigned from the attorney's office along with Harry Jacobs, Melinda Williams, Thomas Calhoun-Lopez, Ruth Schneider and Tom Hollenhurst.

Two sources familiar with the matter tell CBS News the resignations stemmed from concern over a request to probe Good's widow — who was with her when they encountered the ICE agents — as well as the way that the case is being treated as an assault on a federal officer as opposed to a civil rights case.

Thompson was the lead prosecutor in the Feeding Our Future case, a COVID-era $250 million scheme which targeted programs that were meant to feed schoolchildren. Since then he's charged defendants for allegedly defrauding housing and autism service programs, claiming that fraud in Minnesota has topped $9 billion, a figure which Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has pushed back on.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that a number of people familiar with Thompson's decision said he also objected to federal investigators refusing to cooperate with Minnesota state agencies in investigating Good's killing.

Don’t count on it. It is being exposed which is the main thing.

“This’ll set back the fraud case by months.”

With any luck, they’ll be replaced by real prosecutors.

“This is fake news,” Dhillon told The Daily Wire of the story. “No division employee quit.”

[…]

Three people applied for early retirement the day before the shooting, which occurred on January 7 in Minneapolis, Dhillon said. Those three people gave notice weeks before the shooting took place, and the fourth person mentioned in the story put in for retirement in early December, over a month before the shooting took place.

Two of the other people that the MS Now story references have not resigned and are currently at their desks working, The Daily Wire has learned. While they have “apparently told the press they intend to resign,” Dhillon said, “our office has not received notice of any resignations.”

“The media’s never-ending attempts to drum up drama and strife within the DOJ are exhausting,” Dhillon said. “My team and I will not let it distract us from our mission of protecting the civil rights of ALL Americans. We thank those employees retiring for their years of service to the Department and our nation.”

anyone who’s TDS is so strong that they can’t look at the slow motion verison of the video and clearly see the truth shouldn’t have a government job. ANY government job.

This case is VERY clear. It is cut and dry attempt to run over a federal officer, and a justified shooting.

If I had watched the video and seen something different, I wouldn’t say the above. I am NOT a police appoligist, if the officers involved had done something wrong, I would also be calling for them to be arrested.

The lesbian partner should be charged with Felony Murder. The two of them were committing felony aiding and abetting, as well as felony obstruction. She then encouraged her partner to commit assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle) and the partner died.

A death in the commission of three felonies would certainly warrant a Felony Murder charge.

Yes. CBS and fake news are synonymous. Along with the others, we all know who they are. If it is an article aimed at smearing the Trump Admin it will get full coverage, if it’s about fraud or dirt on some libtard, crickets.

If you pull that same exact stunt in Gwinnett County, GA where we live the cops will shoot you all day long.

What I read elsewhere is that a bunch of these people are shitty liberal prosecutors anyway, but in case some of them are not, I can understand why they don't want to rubber stamp this woman's killing.

What she did has been labeled an "assault", and nobody really cares if her real motivation was just panic.

Everyone in the administration wants this justified regardless of what is correct.

True justice does not kowtow to media and public pressure.

No, it is *NOT* clear. I think the idea that this soccer mom just decided to run over an agent is stupid.

I think she panicked, and overreacted.

People just don't decide to run over federal agents. I think she probably just intended to bump him out of the way and go on. Had she intended to run over him, why would she cut her wheels hard right?

She would have driven straight on.

Ironically, that would have likely stopped him from shooting her.
