My doctor gave me a shot of socialism with my annual exam — and yours might, too

Why is my doctor worried about my mortgage payments?

So I found myself wondering as I filled out a questionnaire before a recent primary-care visit.

Along with the usual prompts about my health, I encountered a series of questions related to my financial situation.

The form asked whether in the last 12 months I was unable to pay my mortgage or rent on time, and if I was “worried that my food would run out before I got the money to buy more.”

These questions weren’t an attempt to gauge whether I would pay my medical bill; they were part of a campaign driven by political activists out to justify socialist policies in the name of improving health care. […]

The questions I was asked reflect the activist obsession with what’s known as the “Social Determinants of Health.”

The way the argument goes, factors like income, education, neighborhood conditions, racism, access to transportation and so on heavily determine a patient’s health.

The World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control repeatedly assert that these factors are major drivers of disparities in life expectancy, infant mortality, diabetes rates and cardiovascular disease across racial and socioeconomic groups.

But it’s not true: The framework is based on critical logical and empirical fallacies.

It confuses correlation with causation, while systematically downplaying or ignoring biological, behavioral and genetic variables that often have far more to do with differences in patient health outcomes.

But that’s what you’d expect from a notion that has nothing to do with medicine — and everything to do with politics. …

I simply skip all of irrelevant and intrusive questions. I tell the nurse, none of your business.

I have steadfastly refused such “questionnaire” questions in the past.

Especially the ones that asked whether I had firearms in my residence , how many etc.

Next thing you know your health insurance goes way up because of socialist based “risk factors.”

If it comes to having a credit chwck as a requirement to get medical services, I will see a horse doctor.LOL.

Medical schools and nursing schools fully indoctrinate their students these days into socialist ideology. That must be stopped.

Wellness as a whole rather than specific health issues. The Medicare Wellness Exam questionnaire. All your info are belong to the gubmint.

Yet another profession almost completely taken over by the left.

Do you feel safe in your home?
Are there any guns in your home?
Do you have mortgage or food insecurity?

Honestly, I have begun to loathe the medical profession. So many have become Socialists who are nothing more than drones for the HMOs.

I have done the same. If they push it, I simply tell them that their bill will be paid, and any other financial information is not their concern.

And I have changed doctors for that sort of thing.

“asked whether I had firearms in my residence”

“Do you have guns in your home?”

“Hell, doc, I’ve got guns in your office.”

I spent years servicing x-ray machines in doctor’s offices. More than once I heard a doctor tell the patient not to forget his pistol on table.

I got one of those on my last visit. I was going to throw it back at them until I noticed every question had a refuse to answer option. Checked them all.

Years ago, my doctor asked on a questionnaire if I had any guns in my house. I told him it was none of his G D business.Thankfully he did not press the point.

“income, education, neighborhood conditions, racism, access to transportation and so on heavily determine a patient’s health”

Look at any State Medicaid Database. Do an FOIA. Bad lifestyle choices determine health and medical cost more than the factors listed above.

Tobacco, alcohol, drugs, STD/HIV are the high cost, high impact choices. Sugar, food additives are next.

Newborn babies have health issues. The #1 health problem of newborns is that their mom made bad lifestyle choices.

SNAP and HHS programs are designed not designed to incentivize good lifestyle choices. They are designed to maximiZe Provider income.

You have to wonder that if you refuse to answer these invasive questions, then you are diagnosed with defiant personality disorder. At that point, the diagnosis is recorded by insurance companies, Medicaid, and Medicare for future access by Federal or state authorities. You must remember that the privacy laws have been broken in the past and provide no real protection.

It is legit for a doctor to ask a patient if they are experiencing any stress. It is up to the patient whether they want to answer and provide any specifics.
