Iranian women have been defiantly lighting cigarettes with burning images of supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Smoking in women is seriously frowned upon in the Middle Eastern nation, while setting pictures of the country's leader on fire is against the law - making the move a bold act of protest.
Videos and pictures showing women lighting their cigarettes with burning images of Khamenei have been trending on social media, with viewers hailing their resistance to state authority and social controls.
In several images, the female protesters are also shown not wearing a hijab despite it being a mandatory requirement in Iran for women to wear headscarves.

The Left hates organized religion and wants to live in a secular world. But what they really mean is they just hate the Christians and the Jews.
The left is just fine with brutal Islamic dictatorships. Those dictatorships help ensure that the Christians and Jews are kept in their place as a downtrodden people.
If Iran overthrows the ayatollah and his goons - and that’s a big if - Iran may become the most secular country in the Middle East. There is all kinds of evidence that at least the urban population is thoroughly sick of conservative Islam. There really may be a revolution in the Middle East that goes way beyond Iran and starts turning Islam in a much more secular direction.

Hopefully, the Iraneans will end up with a government that avoids both extremes: (1) the false, legalistic religion of Islam; or (2) the moral decadence and Marxism of the West. It’ll take a miracle because the extrememes are fighting tooth and nail to keep this from happening.

My first thought was that they’d do better by lighting cigarettes from the burning bodies of an ayatollah.
BTW, I grew up in NJ, but escaped to Texas about 25 years ago. Perhaps our similar thoughts on this subject are related to the cultural effects of having a disproportionate number of people like Tony Soprano living and working in state? 😜
Everything that woman is doing in that picture could put her life at risk. In contrast we've got women and men in the US inventing dangers, threats and oppression, then throwing childish tantrums in response to these fabricated risks, all the while this woman is literally putting her life on the line with this simple little act for what she believes in.
