The warning came in a post on X as the U.S. Embassy responsible for Venezuela relayed reports of armed militias targeting travelers for evidence of American citizenship amid mounting civil unrest and public safety breakdowns.
"The security situation in Venezuela remains fluid," the State Department wrote on X. "As international flights have resumed, U.S. citizens in Venezuela should leave the country immediately."
Why It Matters
The State Department directive follows a fresh spike in violence and instability throughout Venezuela, a country already subject to a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory since 2019.
The evacuation order follows notable turbulence in the country's political landscape, including the capture of former President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces last week, widespread protests, and a series of high-profile prisoner releases by acting Venezuelan authorities.
What To Know
The U.S. Embassy in Venezuela warned that armed groups known as "colectivos" have set up roadblocks by stopping vehicles and searching for evidence of U.S. citizenship or support for the U.S.
American citizens are urged to be cautious, especially when traveling by road, and to maintain heightened vigilance. The State Department also reaffirmed its highest-level advisory—Level 4: Do Not Travel—citing wrongful detention, torture, terrorism, kidnapping, breakdowns of law enforcement, civil unrest, and poor healthcare for the reason.

I guess we’ll leave people hanging out, just like we did with the Kurds.
We’re just a week into it, but it seems longer.
And the South Vietnamese.
If we don't arm the good people how are they to do anything?

🚨This account from a Venezuelan security guard loyal to Nicolás Maduro is absolutely chilling—and it explains a lot about why the tone across Latin America suddenly changed.
Security Guard: On the day of the operation, we didn’t hear anything coming. We were on guard, but

Nothing to worry about with the oil fields?
Jesus will come back like a thief in the night.
There are Americans in Venezuela? They might get out through Guyana as long as they stay out of the Rasta area. Of course Brazil is an option too.
My guess is it’s so we don’t kill our own when we go after the Maduro thugs going around and killing civilians....Trump doesn’t “leave people behind”
At some point the ”good people” are going to have to get a little bad and push back
Supposedly there were some 30,000 Cuban regime thugs installed in Venezuela to support Maduro in addition to the cartels already there. Those guys are going to need a good swat.
Good advice from the State Department.
If you’re still there, you’re kidnapping, torcher and eventual murder is on you.
Israel is arming them.
Maduro may be gone, but it doesn’t sound like the U.S. is in control.
Another Trump miscalculation, he figured getting rid of Maduro would solve the problem.
He hasn’t had a good few weeks, he shot his mouth off yesterday about Iran, assuming the overthrow of the Ayatollahs was a done deal.
The U.S. didn't take control. The U.S. showed it can smash the Venezuelan government any time it wants to, but has not actually done so yet.
It extracted a man with first-hand knowledge of recent election fraud, and hopes that making him talk will topple its domestic enemies.
It denied China another foothold in Latin America.
It opened up the possibility of adding Venezuela's oil back into US markets.
At no point was an Iraq-style external war of liberation executed nor even contemplated.
And the VP was told she can keep the top job if she keeps her Communism internal, and cuts out Russia and China. Rather stupidly, she seems to still be pondering whether to take this offer or fight on.
Trump as Commander in Chief succeeded in capturing a narco terrorist out of a hostile nation where the US has had a National Emergency since Obama.
And Venezuela has election infrastructure ties that might be very valuable to any stolen elections that have occured here recently.
The National Emergency isn’t over yet in Venezuela.
Neither is the National Emergency regarding Iran (since your buddy Carter) over.
But I suspect that Endless National Emergencies isn’t something that President Trump is trying to accomplish in his 45-47 term.
Ending the endless was part of the mandate in 2024 vote..
