What if Greenland becomes a state?

Posted on 01/10/2026 4:21:02 PM PST by Big Brother Go to Hell

Should Trump really risk acquiring Greenland as a territory? I'm surprised the Democrats aren't already smirking and hissing, "Go for it, Donnie!" They'd be thrilled to have a mix of disgruntled, race baiting Eskimos and entitled Eurotrash Danes demanding statehood. As with Washington D.C., Greenland would give the 'Rat party an automatic two new AOC type senators and one Congress person if it were to join the Union.

Maybe Greenland's slender population of 56,000 would preclude statehood? Maybe enough fishermen, miners, oil field roughnecks, and other red blooded Americans would move into Greenland by the time the issue of statehood even comes up, and they could outvote the current cohort of communists, perverts, racial malcontents, welfare parasites, etc.

Iceland’s government is both leftist and corrupt.

Then there’s the whole geology issue thats still on the table.

Greenland is a much better choice.

Rhode Island has 1.2 million people approximately.

The Historic metric for a territoty to become a state was an acheived population over 200000. It could fluctuate I guess depending on congress.

Population based...not land area based. That’s why Suggestions that Staten Island could be allowed to be its own state can be validly considered.

GOLD RUSH- Diamonds i mean- and rubies and other valuable gems-

Good luck with that. There was a TV show about a group of miners that tried that and failed miserably. All the known mineral deposits are already claimed by some Dane transplant or other.

Every thing has to be barged or flown in. There is only one short paved road around the capitol. Those doing the transporting charge high rates because there is no other alternative. Then there are the Polar bears, ever on the lookout for an easy snack - you.

So you get your stuff to the leased mineral site. Now you have checked the owners claims and are satisfied that you’ll make your million dollar investment back quickly. Only once there, the mineral seems to be in short supply, Why is that? Because the owner salted the site and you bit. Too bad.

Well you think I just explore the site and see what I can find. You set out, but the nearby hill turns out to be very steep almost vertical and the material on the approach is lose rock, making it a good bet for a fall/broken bones. The nearest medical facility is hundreds of miles and a helicopter ride away, if your satellite phone can connect.

And tha’t just for starters ... did I mention the weather?

Self government under the Constitution, no income taxes, full US citizenship.

If they got that, expect the population to enter a very steep decline. Unless you are born there or have a Danish family connection to commercial fishing or some other Danish run business, you will want to leave as soon as you can. And they will.

Sweeten the deal by promising to modernize them infrastructurally.

There is only one paved road near the capitol - that’s the infrastructure.

I think we could sweeten the deal to get a lease of Greenland from Denmark. We could lease it for 50-100 years at $1B per year and give them revenue of the percentage of any raw material we dig up. We don’t have to own it or deal with citizenship issues.

I like the idea of 250 year lease, to commemorate the 250th year of the USA.
