What if Greenland becomes a state?

Posted on 01/10/2026 4:21:02 PM PST by Big Brother Go to Hell

Should Trump really risk acquiring Greenland as a territory? I'm surprised the Democrats aren't already smirking and hissing, "Go for it, Donnie!" They'd be thrilled to have a mix of disgruntled, race baiting Eskimos and entitled Eurotrash Danes demanding statehood. As with Washington D.C., Greenland would give the 'Rat party an automatic two new AOC type senators and one Congress person if it were to join the Union.

Maybe Greenland's slender population of 56,000 would preclude statehood? Maybe enough fishermen, miners, oil field roughnecks, and other red blooded Americans would move into Greenland by the time the issue of statehood even comes up, and they could outvote the current cohort of communists, perverts, racial malcontents, welfare parasites, etc.

Do states have to be contiguous? They could merge with Alaska.

At most it should have the same status as Puerto Rico, Samoa and Guam. No more ! Too small a population, not likely to grow much too culturally different!

Then you give two senate seats to about 5000 people.

Would make a great state.

Offer the Olympic committee to make it the permanent host of the Winter Olympics.

How many people did Wyoming have when it became a state?

I’d rather have Iceland, if anyone is taking requests.

Adapted from a previous post...

If the Danish and the Greenish (Greenlanders) were to give the matter some thought, they would seek out a mutual relationship with the USA so that the Russian and/or Chinese don't end up ruling them.

Not a takeover.

An space-sharing arrangement.

Yes, I live in Minneapolis:
a. I want to get out
b. It’s too warm here. It should be sub-zero and the ice on Meicine Lake should be 18” thick.
c. 20 degrees and I don’t even need a coat.

I thought MAGA was an isolationist movement, not an Imperialist 2.0 chest-puffing outlet for whatever this is.

It’s going to lose you the 2028 election. Time to give it a rest.

Good point. WY pop at admission in 1890 was only 55,000 (of the 60,000 thrn required, ha!)

Of course, USA pop has multiplied x6 since then.

I believe statehood today for just 57,000 people would not secure the necessary approvals from our existing political process.

And would create further backlash concerning other, existing USA territories etc

I think Greenland will be a USA territory.

But we will see.

Do states have to be contiguous?

Ask Michigan! Or Hawaii!

Heck, ask Washington State!

Maybe we could just get rid of Minnesomalia.

They do not have enough population to make a state.

Does Rhode Island have enough population to make a state?

Here's my proposal...

Since Greenland is used to being governed by the island of Denmark, let's merge it with Rhode Island and call the new state...

Rhode Islands!

That way, we still have 50 states and the balance in Congress is unchanged.

“Do states have to be contiguous? They could merge with Alaska.”

There’s precedent, Michigan and Virginia have two parts separated by water. Join Greenland to Alaska and call it Borough of East Alaska.

I doubt the admin or Greenland are looking at statehood.

My bet is an unincorporated territory.

That would work very well for both us and Greenlanders.
