For many Americans, hot sauce is so much more than just a condiment. It’s a topic people feel passionately about, and geography might help explain some of those opinions.

In honor of National Hot Sauce Day on Jan. 22, the folks at Instacart analyzed purchase data from the online grocery platform to reveal Americans’ hot sauce preferences. When it comes to the U.S. as a whole, the five most-purchased hot sauce brands were Frank’s RedHot, Huy Fong Foods (makers of the beloved Sriracha), Taco Bell, Cholula and Texas Pete.

Instacart’s report also provides a state-by-state breakdown of hot sauce preferences in different parts of the U.S.

My #1 go to hot sauce is Panola Extra Hot Hot Sauce, I'd rate this on par with Tabasco for spiciness. Unfortunately this may be discontinued.

Panola Pepper

Followed Closely by Tabasco

TABASCO® Original Red Sauce | TABASCO Country Store®

Then The Beast for firing up food like Chili. Be very very carful using this.

The Beast

And for Chicken Wings it's Hooter Hot Wing sauce (which is getting hard and expensive to get)

Amazon.com : The Original Hooters Hot Wing Sauce - Spicy & Robust Flavor - Ideal for for Grilling, Chicken Wings, Ribs, Chops, Shrimp, Seafood & Dips - 12 fl oz : Gourmet

Yes Tabasco for me. I’m surprised Huy Fong for New Mexico?

Son of North Carolina though I am and now living in South Carolina, I regret to admit that I have yet to try Texas Pete.

Funny. I have a bottle in the fridge. Never paid attention to the brand name. Just the chicken on the bottle.

Where’s Tabasco on this list? Until recently, I only ever saw Sriracha and Tabasco! And Sriracha solely for Asian. (Lately I’ve seen a lot of Frank’s.)

So many to choose from. I've settled on Tabasco because it has a good flavor.
It's not just hot. It's hot enough for a little zip but it also has a very good flavor.

Tabasco and Sriracha in this house.

I know a guy who makes his own hot sauce. Some of the hottest stuff I’ve had. Carolina Reapers.

The various types of Sriracha

Trader Joe's makes an excellent Sriracha.

They dialed back the fire just a hair and added a bit of smoke. Good stuff!
