Curtis Edward Gowdy was born in Green River, Wyo., on July 31, 1919. Gowdy was proud of his Wyoming heritage and loved the outdoors, claiming that he was “born with a fly rod in one hand; and the sports microphone came a little later.”

I remember Curt Gowdy calling some of the ‘68 World Series play-by-play on national TV. One of the greats.
That was a great show.
I always remember him calling Reggie’s 1971 All-Star Game Home Run.
Gowdy-Christman, early AFL; Gowdy-Kubek, Saturday afternoon baseball for decades, it seems like
Say what?
Phil Harris seemed to be Curt’s favorite guest.
My favorite Gowdy blooper came in a football game at the Oakland Coliseum. It had rained heavily and the Coliseum turf did not drain well. Puddles developed all over the field. Receiver Paul Warfield dove for a pass and skidded on his stomach through a puddle on his stomach. It took awhile for him to get up.
“Warfield looks like he needs artificial insemination,” observed Gowdy.
He meant to say artificial respiration.
The topic of artificial insemination had been in the news quite a bit in those years as science tried to help women who couldn’t get pregnant. Medical ethicists and religious leaders fought over whether this was “playing God”.
Always liked camping at Kurt Gowdy State Park.
I remember watching American Sportsman as a kid in the 60’s.
Here’s one on YT. Sorry about the yt commercials

One of the comments, so true...
Amazing - compared to modern “fishing” shows there are no product endorsements of tackle, boats or even airplanes!
The focus is on fishing and conservation rather than what brand of rods, reels and canoe they are using.
I recallGoudy and Al Delgauts (sp?) doing games i the late 60s and 70s. That’s when the networks were just figuring out how the fleece even more viewers and the NFL was figuring out ho to fleece the networks. . They both succeeded beyond their wildest dreams and destroyed the game of football. Now it’s just a show.
When men were men and women loved them.
I watched KG and American Sportsman religiously as a child in the 1960s. IIRC, the show aired on Sunday afternoons.
I loved that show when I was a kid.
L
Wyoming bump!
Has anyone ever come up with a reliable estimate of how far that ball would’ve gone had it not bounced off of that light tower? I think Mantle still holds the record for distance, but would Reggie’s HR have broken it?
