Blockbuster cinema returns full-throttle in 2026, but as always, it’s the smaller, more auteur-driven projects that catch our eye and keep us optimistic about the filmgoing prospects in the new year. As we set our sights on the films and filmmakers set to light up our screens across the next 12 months.
From the culmination of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” saga, to the surefire prospect of at least one, if not two, new Hong Sang-soo films, and everything in between, our scope spans the entire globe, with the lingering understanding that so many of our most talked-about films by year’s end will, in all likelihood, come right out of nowhere and blindside us with zero anticipation whatsoever. In any event, speculation is always a fun task when looking to the films of the future, so here are our 50 most anticipated films of 2026 (in no particular order):

Agree most are nothing but propaganda selling units they fed the ugly liberalism movement.
There are so many good 60 year old movies.
If you haven’t seen a movie, no matter how old or new, it’s a new movie for you.
Good movies are timeless.
I still like the original better.
I do agree that Feyd-Rautha from Dune 2 was very well done.
Last time I went to a movie theater, 2010, it was to see the remake of True Grit.
Our six plex seems to have three superhero movies a Si-Fi movie, a horror and a kiddie show.
I watched GOLDFINGER on TV last night. Still a good movie.
Anora was one of the several movies I’ve watched in the spirit of opposition research. It was what I expected, with some nice twists. But given the hype and the controversies about it, I finally decided I should watch it before I started ventilating unfounded opinions about it.
More often than not, movies I watch as opposition research live down to my expectations. This is because I read reviews and watch trailers, so I almost never go in cold. And THAT is why I like 90 percent plus of what I see.
Once in awhile, something takes me by surprise. Babylon is a good recent example. I had read enough fulminations about it to write it off as fundamentally objectionable ... but I kept reading reactions from people I respect who praised it.
Breaking with FR traditions, I decided to watch it for myself.
Yes, it has its flaws. It’s too long, for one thing, and it took me three evenings to sit through it. But at some point, it dawned on me that the cringiest scenes — as online graffiti artists portrayed them — are intended as a scathing satire, an indictment of everything that is wrong with Hollywood.
Once I realized what Damien Chazelle was trying to do, I started to think of it as something like Blazing Saddles where too many of the jokes didn’t quite land. I’m willing to cut him some slack for what he was trying to do. And I really, really liked the sprinkling of sane characters, starting with Manny, who see through the nonsense but are still devoted to making art.
Not a great movie, but its intentions were spot on.
Doubet I will see a one of them,,but my wife might on TV.
She watches some strange shiite. Usually neurotic women with gallons of angst.
50?
“Usually neurotic women with gallons of angst.” Your wife watches “The View?”
Watched “ About Last Night “ last week.
What a great love story from the 80s. Why can’t movies be this good anymore?
I’m tempted to see ‘Disclosure Day’, though it looks a little dark for me.
I like happy, friendly ET movies...
His choices, not mine. I just scan the list looking for possible leads. Because I don’t want the streamers’ algorithms dictating what I watch.
Kind of a niche one, but the Peaky Blinders movie comes out in March. Cillion Murphy takes the TV character to the big screen.
I loved me some Peaky Blinders. It’s not for everyone.
Usually netflix foreign stuff it seems.
No network or cable TV. Only Roku stuff.
And no prequels of sequels ... I’m going to watch First Blood and Last Blood and a new one The Bee Keeper .... love those action guys!
We saw Anaconda yesterday it was pretty good
Suggest that she watch Sentimental Value and the Friend. And the Ballad of Wallis Island. And Hamnet. All 2025 releases. All excellent.
You might still be able to see Hamnet in the theater. When is the last time you took her to a movie for date night?
You could even do it up right and take her to a pizza or burgrr joint afterwards, if you want to go really old school.
Rocky 6509?
Looking forward to Werner Herzog’s latest.
Project Hail Mary is the only one I am truly excited about.
Enjoyed the heck out of the book.
Trailers look promising.
I’m done with sequels, remakes and screwing over animation movies with lousy actors and a woke message.
Can’t watch it have that painful second movie.
I’m like WTF 😳 am I watching.
Go back and read the book.
