Thieves made off with $400K worth of Costco lobsters using a sneaky new trick

These thieves are just shell-fish.

Almost half a million dollars’ worth of lobster en route to Costco stores was stolen after sneaky thieves used a new trick to make off with the succulent seafood.

The lobsters were being transported from Massachusetts to stores in Illinois and Minnesota when they disappeared.

The shipment was reportedly picked up in Taunton, Mass., but never reached its destination, according to the president of Rexing Companies, the Indiana-based freight company tasked with transporting the lobster.

The thieves deployed a sneaky new trick to make off with the goods — they buttered up the logistics company by using a fake ID to pose as real truckers, according to the owner of the company.

“This theft wasn’t random. It followed a pattern we’re seeing more and more, where criminals impersonate legitimate carriers using spoofed emails and burner phones to hijack high-value freight while it’s in transit,” Dylan Rexing told NBC News.

The loss of $400,000 worth of lobster was a “significant” one for the company, he added.

“It forces tough decisions and ultimately drives up costs across the supply chain — costs consumers ultimately end up paying,” Rexing added.

A few procedural steps really need to be clarified.

I’ll bet Sikhs have something to do with this as they should be very familiar with the processes in trucking transport now and know how to exploit them.

Good one.

Large corporations always claw back whatever they lose.

In a lecture in the 1950s Napoleon Hill said a wealthy entrepreneur was at a nice restaurant and the waiter brought him a lobster that had one claw broken in half.
Waiter: “He lost a fight to another lobster”
Man: “Well, take it back and bring me the winner. I like winners.”

He added that the theft should be claws for alarm for everyone.

“Brokers are on the front lines of this problem, but we need federal agencies to have modern enforcement tools to keep pace with organized criminal networks. Until that happens, these thefts will continue to disrupt businesses and impact everyday prices,” Rexing said.

claws.

But to the matter. What are the solutions? more tech, more govt or..........................

relationships. As times get worse, it may force us into more local relationships?

RE: Ed Muskie always said hypnotize the little fella’ before he goes into the steam bath.

I never heard that. I like political anecdotes.

Reminds me of the great quote regarding the offscreen Uma Thurman character in Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.

“Someday, if that Sissy Hankshaw ever shows up here again, I’m gonna teach her how to hypnotize a chicken. Chickens are the easiest critters on Earth to hypnotize”.

I was betting on using a robotic female lobster to lure the lobsters away.

I.B.M. Use to have a plant in Boca Raton where they made table top computers
They were transported by a specific trucking company
Someone using one of those trucks back up to a loading dock and using phony documents made off with 2500 computers.

I was there installing cameras at all doors and loading docs.
