Brigitte Bardot dies aged 91: France's original 'Sex Kitten' who found global fame with And God Created Woman before ditching acting and modelling for animal rights activism passes away

Brigitte Bardot, the French actress and singer who became an international sex symbol before turning to animal rights activism, has passed away aged 91.

Bardot had been ill in hospital in Toulon, according to local media. The star's animal rights charity announced her passing on Sunday morning with a statement.

'The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation,' it said.

The organisation did not specify the time or place where Bardot died.

Known as the original 'Sex Kitten', Bardot shot to international notoriety with her role in the 1956 film And God Created Woman, which was directed by her first husband Roger Vadim.

That turn as a voluptuous, hedonistic orphan made her an object of edgy fascination for millions, even though the film itself got a mixed reaction from critics.

Described by Time magazine as France's 'most ogled export', Bardot's sex appeal was further fuelled by her outings as a model.

Following the news of her death, French president Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Bardot, saying she was 'a legend who embodied a life of freedom'.

Her first husband Roger Vadim exposed her to the world then went on to do the same with later wife Jane Fonda.

Vadim a hedonist an advocate of orgies. In her autobiography Bardot noting more than 100 men and six women.

It does not surprise me she would invest in animals after all that ‘hedonism’.

Serge Gainsbourg wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics about her. This song is about when she left him to go back to her husband.

Luckiest kid to score the role in this movie.

Back in the good old days when showing just a little breast made you a “sex kitten” as compared to today.

And yet the French government fined Bardot numerous times. The fines were for daring to speak out against the Muslim immigration that is destroying France.

So much for the government respecting her “life of freedom”.

A great shame she was said to be a chain smoker.

Hard to see how men could tolerate the stench.
But they were probably chain smokers, too?

well, say what may but at least this is one actor/actress that did some good (her animal protection work, though I wish she’d have made an exception and allowed for bullfighting)

anyways, so many actors/actresses these days decide to harm society with communistic bs politics or other garbage

so hats off to Bridgette

"Serge Gainsbourg wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics about her."

In 1971 when Ferrari introduced the 512BB, the company, and its sales literature claimed the "BB" stood for "Berlinetta Boxer," which did not make a lot of sense as the engine in the vehicle was not a true boxer engine layout.

Leonardo Fioravanti who was an engineer with the design firm Pininfarina, claims that the team that designed the vehicle (of which he was part) thought the vehicle was so beautiful they began referring to it as the, "Brigitte Bardot," or, "BB," and employees at the Ferrari factory followed suit, but Ferrari executives invented the "Berlinetta Boxer," moniker for the sake of propriety. The account may or may not be true, but being that the source of it was one of the design team gives it some credibility. It is a beautiful car, and I could easily buy the story.

RIP Ms. Bardot.

Oddly she stayed in contact with and worked with vadim all his life

And all his wives did too and attended his services at death

Women are not always victimized by sexual excess

Some like it

Bardot admitted being a philanderer who got bored quick

Remember Pretty Maids All in a Row?

Salacious at the time

Vadim confessional maybe

His dad was a White Russian leader
