An Oklahoma man who was doing target practice with a recently purchased handgun in his backyard on Christmas Day is accused of shooting and killing a woman seated on a front porch blocks away as she held a child in her arms, authorities said.
The woman, identified as Sandra Phelps, was sitting with family members under a covered front porch at a home in Comanche, about 90 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, on Thursday afternoon when she was struck in her right arm by what appeared to be a single bullet, an affidavit said. Phelps was holding a child in her left arm while seated on a love seat.
The family members told investigators they heard five to seven shots "over several minutes" coming from somewhere north of the home, the affidavit said. Phelps remarked that someone nearby must have gotten "a new gun for Christmas," according to the filing. Shortly after, she said "'ouch' and collapsed." No additional gunshots were heard.

You mean, like from Muskogee?
Dumbass.
There are already laws against reckless discharge of firearms...everywhere.
You forgot: The shooter is responsible for the bullet from the time it leaves the barrel until it comes to a complete rest and always know what is behind your target and how far your bullet may travel if you miss the intended target.
Dumb, just plain stupid. There are many basic shooting rules, one of them is to know for certain where your rounds will eventually wind up. On my range it’s a pile of dirt. If that pile of dirt gets missed, then its a thick forest.
That’s another reason why I will never be a hero in a convenience store if it’s held up. I have no desire to miss the target and whack an innocent person.
It’s morons like this that literally give the left the ammo they need to argue against the second amendment.
We have a target range on our rural property but its back stopped into a hill. Not rocket science.
Bullets have ricocheted off earthen backstops and berms.
It happened to a small police department in Miami-Dade County. Sure, it’s comparatively concentrated fire, but at least one bullet had escaped—and recovered.
“Know your target and what’s behind it.”
Hahaha! Yes!!!
Almost happened to me. Went out to shut down my workshop late one evening. Heard a couple of shots from the next street over. Stopped to see what was up and then continued on my way. A minute later, walking through my carport, i heard 3 more shots and flinched as I heard one round pass by my head. I was in a carport between my shop and my truck so probably within a couple of feet and I assume hit somewhere in the woods behind my house.
I yelled a few choice words then heard a door slam shut in the distant dark. The sheriff deputy showed up 45 minutes later, took a report and scanned the scene for a minute from my driveway, shook his head and drove away.
Yeh, I don’t think there’s any bounce off the soft dirt of our backstop. 😉
Get this...
From the article, the perp’s home is located about 0.3 miles away from the residence where the victim was shot.
I didn’t think a Glock handgun had that kind of range...
Oh, jeez...

Wonder if it was a Longslide...
Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.—Matthew 24:40-44
He was quite stupid and now a woman is dead because of him. Totally preventable and anyone with half a brain should know better.
Prosecute him.
As I recall, the errant bullet had been a ricochet off a compacted lump of fired lead bullets.
