Karen Bass declares emergency as floods wreak havoc across Los Angeles, closing roads and forcing evacuations

Thousands of California residents found themselves under evacuation orders on Christmas morning, as disastrous floods and debris flows closed down major highways.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a state of emergency as the holiday period was forecast to be a washout for the Golden State - with coastal areas expected to see several months' worth of rain within just a few days.

Some parts of Los Angeles County had already seen more than 11 inches of rain as of Wednesday night, as more than 61,000 California residents were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.

But meteorologists warn this is just the beginning of a dangerous series of winter storms that are set to pummel the area, with the National Weather Service warning 'life-threatening' conditions could persist through Christmas Day.

'Lives and property are in great danger,' the US Weather Prediction Center said in a forecast early Wednesday. 'Severe, widespread flash flooding is expected.'

That warning came as the National Weather Service took the rare step of issuing a 'high risk' alert for excessive rainfall in Los Angeles and areas to the north.

Bass has since issued a local emergency in the city of angels, citing 'high intensity rainfall on saturated soils' from the wildfires that tore through Southern California last year.

By issuing the declaration, Bass said she was ensuring that local departments had adequate resources to respond to the brutal effects of the storm.

Time for her to take another trip to Africa like she did the last time there was a fire in LA?

In 1862, parts of CA received as much as 10 FEET of rain over 43 days. The Central Valley became an inland sea. Shades of Noah...

I wonder what such an event will do on the next go-round?

Something’s not right here. There’s no daylight out in the Pacific Time Zone as I type. Well, checking other headlines it seems the storms are real. Wasn’t it a couple of years ago that Dodger Stadium was flooded out after that anti-Christian group was invited to attend?

The Kalifornia version of “never let a crisis go to waste” is the democRAT-caused permanent drought. There have been years where the Sierra snowpack was 250% above average. Between the rain and snow melt, every reservoir could have been full. They insist upon letting the fresh water flow out to the ocean.

Just a few years ago, there was a lot of early spring rain. Several reservoirs were filling up. They let a significant portion of the water flow out of a reservoir, and actually stated that they had to make room in the reservoir “in case it rained a lot more.”

It’s Trump’s fault. It’s all Trump’s fault.

LA never had rain like this until Trump was elected.

So it’s Trump’s fault.

When they have a huge snowpack they just don't have the capacity to store it all if they get a big rain event before the snow starts melting. For example, the Oroville dam is full at 900 feet. If there is a big snowpack, the operators will release water and keep the water level at 850 feet until the snow starts to melt. They don't want to get into a situation of having maximum spillway releases. It damages the river downstream, etc.

“ Some parts of Los Angeles County had already seen more than 11 inches of rain as of Wednesday night”

Just a couple years ago all the liberal panty waists were clutching their pearls and having nervous breakdowns: “California is in a permanent drought. We will never have rain again. Our kids will never see snow again! Humans ruined the climate!”
