The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday they will relocate across the Kansas-Missouri border in a new domed stadium that will be ready by the 2031 season.
The move comes after a Kansas legislative committee approved a bonding package to support the move earlier in the day.
The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium on the Missouri side of Kansas City since 1972. Kansas City (Mo) Mayor Quinton Lucas and city officials planned to address the media later Monday.

No. Their emergency QB is a tight end but not Kelce.
Mozzouri lost the St. Louis Cardinals....now the Chefs.
Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo. went to the Senators.
Since 1972!!! Over 50 years.
That a very long time for NFL standards
Hoosier dome lasted only about 20 years.
It was pretty god when they demolished it.
I think, some other stadiums lasted even shorter.
Correction and addition..the St. louis Cardinals football team, and the St Louis Rams football team were lost by Mozzouri.
As long as they don’t line-up off-sides and it doesn’t cost me anything. The three teams with the most consecutive NFL playoff appearances are the New England Patriots (11 seasons, 2009-2019), followed by the Kansas City Chiefs (10 seasons, 2015-2024), and then a tie between the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys, each with 9 consecutive appearances in different eras (Colts 2002-2010, Cowboys 1975-1983).
Silver close at $69.09 today.
They would be able to host a Super Bowl, and a few college bowl games, or FCS, or FBS championship games.
I would like to see reimbursement of taxes paid with interest after all bills are paid to the taxpayers...
I’m a seller at $69.69 based on the pervert model.
The reality is that it works. Stan Kroenke was one of the few NFL owners to build a stadium without taxpayer funding, but being in Los Angeles, and hosting two NFL teams, it was clear than there would be a lot more use than the typical NFL stadium.
The new concept is to build the stadium along with several other buildings that can generate revenue year round- hotels, casinos, shopping, etc.
Big mistake. Arrowhead was such a classic awesome stadium.
Think (?) it is going to be located near the Hollywood Casino and the NASCAR racetrack...
Good idea...Good access...
So they'll host the Super Bowl once.
Does this mean a larger share at the public trough for the Royals, Cardinal and Blues?
“Will they change the name to the Kansas Chiefs?”
Essentially Kansas City is a shared city, part in Kansas and part in Missouri. No name change required.
Always remember the L.A. headline after Cards beat the Dodgers in ‘85.... “Dodgers in misery, series in Missouri”
KS would be the smallest population state to have a Big 4 pro sports franchise located within its borders.
This idiotic cycle has been on repeat for decades. The myth is that stadiums make their host locations “world class cities” and that they create ancillary jobs (they don’t.)
After the Rams debacle, missouri said no.
