A county run by a construction industry magnate with a net worth to rival Trump's, a magnate whose tainted son-in-law keeps getting re-elected Sheriff on the Republican ticket with never any serious opposition in the primary.
A county illegal aliens stick to like iron shavings to a magnet, because there's tons of construction jobs just waiting for them here and law enforcement (there's an oxymoron for ya) looks the other way, and where the cost of labor for that magnate I was telling you about is negligible because of his cheap labor pool protected by the son-in-law.
Try visiting one of the Hillsborough County Tax Collector offices to conduct business and get ready to rumble. You'll see a large crowd of military-aged Hispanic rebels loitering at the front entrance, staring you down as you enter a county office where there's absolutely zero police or sheriff deputy presence outside or inside the premises whatsoever.
Need I say more? Except when we lost access to investigative journalism here in Tampa, which continually held elected officials accountable for their misdeeds and there was always a local governmental "scandal-du jour" on the front page, the entire county just went completely to hell in a bucket.
That's a big bucket, because the real estate developers hand in glove with the magnate have made Hillsborough just about the most populous county in the entire state of Florida, where 24/7 gridlock on the roads and ten-minute traffic-light waits tell the tale.

Does anyone recall several months ago, President Trump nominated this county law enforcement officer for a federal position. It didn’t take five minutes for this guy to announce he was declining the nomination because he did not believe he had “sufficient experience” to effectively discharge the duties of the position.
When was the last time you heard a county sheriff say that to the POTUS? I’m sure Trump knew what was going to happen and I think the guy was picked deliberately, just to confirm what his reaction would be-—mortal fear of national scrutiny by Congress.

The Hillsborough sheriff is Chad Chronister, originally appointed by Rick Scott in 2017, and re-elected ever since. He is married to Nikki DeBartolo. Her father is Edward DeBartolo, former owner of the SanFran 49ers, i.e., the DeBarolo's are very wealthy. Their family foundation is big-time into philanthropic causes and giving to the community.
Beyond that, I don't find any information that would suggest corruption. But then, local news sources are unlikely to approach those waters.
