Brace for another government shutdown early in the new year, as the GOP’s narrow majorities and the Democratic base’s deep desire to derail the Trump presidency makes it near-impossible for Congress to get anything done.
The first piece of coal in Americans’ stockings: The short-term funding bill that Democrats finally allowed to pass last month, ending the record-long shutdown, only runs through Jan. 30.
The federal Fiscal Year 2026 started Oct. 1 this year, yet the House and Senate have so far passed only three of the 12 appropriations bills to fund various parts of the government.
And they’re not even close on the other nine; they’d need a Christmas miracle to get it done in time.
And it’ll be brutally hard to pass yet another stopgap bill, or alternately an “omnibus” to cover everything through next Oct. 1: Too many Republicans are sick of these contraptions, while too few Democrats are willing to give the GOP any help at all.
And the combined moderate wings of both parties aren’t enough to do the job, even if both were willing to take such drastic action.

Only good taste keeps me from laughing.
Get rid of the filibuster. At least get rid of it for passing Continuing Resolutions.
We have to expect SOME consequence caused by our massive Fed.gov spending and America’s vast, bloated, government and its Everest-sized debt mountain.
In most countries, disputes over resources and spending in a printed-money, debt-debasement, marxist social-engineering and welfare state of the type we have now would be a cause for civil war.
Our country is unable to fix it, but at least we take such disputes out on government, for now anyway (and as it should be)
So be of good cheer its not a lot worse.
As long as they can kick it down the road, it will exist. Congress does very little but appearances. The only two things they are passionate about is keeping their jobs and voting themselves raises so they create confrontations in public, hash it out, and then do nothing but do things to have it come back later. This is how they appear working and it is expected by them to have the public on the edge of their seats.
Here is a website with the many definitions of a politician:

And, unfortunately, most apply.

Congress is like a field goal kicker. You have one job. Pass a Effn budget. Geez. It’s not that hard. But I digress.
They could get it done, but destroying President Trump is more important than protecting the American people.

The federal debt is ~$400,000/American citizen full-time worker.
What do you think is ‘affordable’ when it comes to a house, Mr. & Mrs. Young?
$300,000, tops!
The $300,000 isn’t enough to secure Mr. & Mrs. Young’s $800,000 share of the federal debt.
You might say there’s stock market value to secure the federal debt. That would need to be about $500,000 for Mr. & Mrs. Young and their kiddies. That’s $500,000 after state and federal corporate tax is paid. Yup, $500,000 profit, after tax, just from one American citizen family.
What about the migrants? They can bolt.
Are Ellen and her ‘wife’ back in Montecito? Rachel Reeves made the English air chillier.
I think Congress is on Christmas vacation right now.
They will have just a few weeks to pass the budget or CRA.
I have a crazy idea, why not they actually do a budget for a change? I know, that’s crazy talk but it might just work.
CUT OFF THEIR PAYCHECKS & BENEFITS
IF I DO NOT DO MY WORK/JOB-—I DO NOT GET PAID.
I like to play the Kazoo as I watch the slobs in the Congress “work.” There are still a couple goobers left before all the GOOBs will be gone and Congress will be made up entirelyy of pieces of meat like little Bobby “The Gunfighter” Garcia, Rocket Butt Markie Kelly, AOC’s Band Of Squawds, Pramila Gorilla, the Far Left Fight, Fight, Fight team leader, and Ilhan Omar, the new Queen of Walz’s Kingdom of MinnieSomalia and King Hakeem Skyhook Jeffries.
Also see my tagline.
I’m all braced. Let me know when it’s over, I may not notice.
I liked it, do it again. Make it longer this time.
The universal use of “they” as to whom to assign blame only throws the baby out with the bathwater and defeats support for those in Congress who actually agree with your concerns. You are of no help when you lump those we agree with together with those we oppose, with your universal “they”. You mistakenly blame our allies in Congress for what they don’t succeed at doing, ignoring the obstacles to that success - their tiny majority, their nearly unified opposition and their own few holdout on occasion.
Our electoral opponents are to blame; not some universal”they”.
I think they might have gone for twelve hours before their older members started dropping.
“Our electoral opponents are to blame; not some universal ”they.”
It depends on your point of view as to what is in the best interest of the citizens they, all of congress, are representing. There is a give and take of lose and win strategies rather than deciding too often on the publics’ best interest. They are fighting for things that don’t help us.
Lets take a look at what the house did on the day before yesterday:

And that’s it. Not one thing was decided in 14 issues. Everything was kicked down the road. And some of them had nothing to do with congress other than trying to scalp the citizen’s out of taxpayer money for individual state purposes. That’s called pork. Check the voting record of your congressmen/women before you vote next time and see if they are doing your work. That’s why you put them there. And you are paying them thousands to do nothing but pass the buck. On the 19th a junior high school government could have done that.
