No. 9 Alabama ripped off 27 straight points after a horrific start to beat No. 8 Oklahoma 34-24 in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Friday night.
The Sooners led 17-0 with 10:51 to go in the second quarter after John Mateer hit Isaiah Sategna III for a 7-yard score. Less than 10 minutes later, Alabama had the game tied at 17-17 in the midst of a flurry that stretched through the third quarter.
After Oklahoma cut Alabama’s lead to three at the start of the fourth quarter, the Tide pushed the lead back to 10 on a 6-yard TD run by Daniel Hill with less than 7:30 to go. His touchdown was set up by Germie Bernard’s incredible catch as Bernard reached over an Oklahoma defender’s helmet to set up first-and-goal......
No one mistook Oklahoma for a national title favorite entering the College Football Playoff. But the Sooners closed as favorites on Friday night and, in the game’s early stages, the offense looked the best it had since Mateer broke his hand late in the Week 4 win over Auburn.
Instead, Oklahoma found itself in a familiar position of being unable to run the ball as well. The Sooners had to rely a lot on Mateer to make plays with his feet. After the pass rush was nonexistent in the first half, Alabama cranked the pressure up in the second and finished with five sacks of Mateer as he ended up with 19 rushing attempts for 15 yards. Mateer was 26-of-41 passing for 307 yards and two touchdowns.

That said, without a running game Bama's chances for the CFB are near ZERO IMHO. However, they proved they deserved to be in the CFP.
I suppose a Roll Tide is in order
Turned out to be a good game. But UO’s placekicker…WTF? That was an epic choke.
Nooooo!!!!!!!
Roll Tide Roll!!!
I’d like to go back to the BCS format, which was mostly correct until there are 3 or more undefeated teams. In the current case the BCS would be Indiana vrs Georgia where there’d be little dispute.
Then other bowl games could mean something.
I’d mostly agree, but until the 2nd missed OK FG, I hoped Bama would not F it up. That is the wrong attitude, but unfortunately correct.
Nope, “High Tide”!
Alternate news report:
...in semi-pro football, the team operating out of University of Alabama defeated the semi-pro team from Norman, Oklahoma.. Good players from each team will probably transfer to other semi-pro teams, where higher NIL deals can be made.
Drunk fans on either side yelled at each other, “boomer sooner!” or “roll tide”.....a reference to nostalgic times when the football teams were actually(believe it or not,) comprised of students of their respective majors at their schools. Many of the teams best players didn’t want to play the game as the chances of going to the CFP championship was low, and the player didn’t want to risk lowering their draft stock in the NFL. An injury might make then undraftable causing a potential loss of millions of dollars in the future.
The drunk fans, (the people with the styrofoam No.1 hands, and painted faces screaming at NETWORK TV cameras panning the painted ,bare chested throng) were reasonably happy, win or lose. The big winners was the NCAA because of the media contracts awarding the member organizations big cash for now and the future.

IMHO
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
I’m so hyped that, despite taking two extremely sedating muscle relaxers every night, I will probably get no sleep. That was one of our biggest wins in a while.
I will also have to ask forgiveness for the things I said in the first quarter.
Let's junk the playoffs and get back to the bowls. Make the Rose Bowl once again an East-West contest.

Nostalgia is futile in a cash driven “sport”. Those days are done. Enjoy the great memories, the feeling of pride having rooted for a successful team. The real action now is the gambling (disgusting, I know). Over/under, spread, proposition bets rule the day. Better to get in an exercise program chasing physiological perfection.
IMHO and freegards.
👍
Well, Tulane and James Madison simply do not deserve to be there at all. Upsets can happen, to be sure, but their games are going to be tune-up for Ole Miss and Oregon...might as well have given them a bye.
I do not understand the decision to include them at all.
They were included because they qualified according to rules everyone agreed to.
I was working on a crew in Tennessee and my foreman was from Alabama. We were sitting around at lunch and I wasn’t paying much attention when I heard him say, “When a kid gets to be about five in Alabame he is expected to make a decision.” So my ears perked up, I thought I was about to hear some deep theological discussion. The he said, “He has to choose between Auburn and Alabama.” That still makes me laugh when I watch those two teams play.
Nothing like a little hate to spice up a rivalary.
Great headline. Saves me having to watch the game I recorded while working last night. Thanks.
While I know that, those “rules” are pretty absurd when there are much better teams sitting at home. That’s why I am wondering...
