My son who is self employed was paying $900 a month for Obamacare coverage. Without the subsidies his new estimate for next year is going to be $2500 a month.
He’s a solid Trump supporter, but he can’t afford to insure his family if the subsidies are not extended. The Republicans are going to lose big next November if this isn’t resolved in the next week.
Literally, the Dems have the Republicans by the balls on this one.
That was the plan from the beginning.
You can thank John McCain for this.
“MODERATES”
Do you think they would call Democrats leaving their party to vote for the other side moderates?
They would imply that they’re looking for money, a deal, a sweetheart deal, or or personal gain
Your son should join one of those religious cost-sharing groups. I was paying about $220 for single coverage in one of them when I started my business and was not even eligible for a standard insurance plan until the open enrollment period began.
The best idea is to allow individuals/families to join group plans through third parties that pool small business owners and would be able to offer insurance that would be priced comparably to company plans.
The ONLY subsidies ending are not the original Obamacare subsidies but the extended subsidies enacted during covid, enacted to be TEMPORARY. All subsidies that were enhanced just go back to the subsidy they were before. All subsidies expanded (for covid) to folks with greater than 400% of the poverty level, are eliminated for those higher income folks.
Unfortunately, for now the best thing we can do is to extend the Obamacare subsidies.
We need to do well in the midterms in 2026 and then Vance/Rubio ticket MUST win in 2028.
So his $ 2,500/month premium is being reduced to $900/month with other people’s money. The brilliance of Obamacare was the obfuscation of this subsidy and the various subgroup cross-subsidies. I say make it obvious - put it in the face of everyone by making the monthly statement perfectly transparent. As in “Your health care insurance costs $2500/month, other people are paying taxes that fund a $1600 subsidy, you pay $900.”
The insanity of it is that none of the articles detailing the political intrigue in this have any $figures in them. No one is explaining how much a 3-year extension of this will increase the annual deficit and the National Debt.
