Pope Leo XIV is expected to accept Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s resignation this week — and will possibly name a bishop from the pontiff’s Illinois home state to lead the Archdiocese of New York, well-placed sources said.
Dolan, who has served as archbishop since 2009, submitted his resignation in February after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75.
Insiders said the Holy Father is now set to accept the resignation, and that he is considering naming Bishop Ron Hicks, of Joliet, Ill., near the pope’s Windy City hometown, to replace Dolan.

Sad- i like Dolan, a lot...i’m sure this new Bishop will be a far leftists...

He is from Leo’s neighborhood — born in Harvey, Illinois, grew up in South Holland.
Dolan came here and immediately understood the the Cardinal Archbishop is an intrinsic part of this city. It was too bad he dealt with mayors like Bloomie and DiBlasio who for different reasons had no sense that religion has been and will continue to be part of the City, even as Catholics decrease in numbers. I always looked forward to his Midnight Mass. Now I have one more of his to watch. I suspect the new Cardinal will be Hispanic and as they are a dominant group in NYC Catholics that makes sense.
Also most do not realize the Archdiocese does not serve Brooklyn and Queens. The Diocese of Brooklyn tends to its own in a bit less ostentatious manner.
The supposed new guys name from Joliet, Illinois is Hicks, so it looks like they’re staying the Irish route...
This is a great loss.
Cardinal O’Connor told gov Cuomo, mayor Koch and the AOH - st pats parade organizers- all where the Catholic Church stood on all matters people consider controversial and straight from the catechism.
He assisted and had the church assist with aids patients, helped mothers with an organization for unplanned pregnancy.
He didn’t ‘deal’.
Well, my litmus test is the traditional Latin Mass... and this fellow Bp Ron Hicks has reportedly been good on that issue... the word is that he ignored Traditionis Custodes in his diocese and let the TLM communities continue “as is.” On that basis, I’ll take it.
Leo wants Christian hating lackeys. He is second in a row chosen to destroy the church for the sake of Islam.
