Donald Trump has doubled down on his attacks on Rob Reiner after the Hollywood star and his wife were apparently murdered.
The President appeared to blame Reiner and Michele's killings on the liberal director's 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' in a Monday post on Truth Social.
Hollywood celebrities and Republicans pushed back on his statement, with some calling it 'disgusting and vile.'
But the President seemed undeterred in his criticism of the late director.
When pressed by a reporter in the Oval Office about his previous statement, he said: 'Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person. As far as Trump was concerned.
'I think he hurt himself, career-wise, he became like a deranged person, [with] Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.'
Trump also accused Reiner of pushing the 'Russia hoax', the allegation that the President was compromised by the Kremlin during his first term.
He wrote that Reiner, a 'once very talented movie director and comedy star,' passed away, 'reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease' known as TDS - or Trump Derangement Syndrome. The term is used by conservatives to describe disdain for the Republican President.
Trump's post continued: 'He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.'
The vicious statement about the couple's death highlighted Trump's tendency to attack public figures following their passing. The Republican has also ridiculed the late Senator John McCain and General Colin Powell after they died.

But Reiner’s death was not a political act. It was not an assassination carried out by some radical loon. It was not in retaliation for anything he said about Trump. If that was the case than a bit of “Now you get to see what it feels like.” would not be the most defensible response but it would be somewhat understandable.
Instead his and his wife’s murder was a deeply personal, tragic, and horrifying event. So for Trump to bring Reiner’s politics into it is just wrong. For posters here to opine that he deserved such a death because of his politics is grossly wrong. For posters here to somehow assume they know just how Reiner’s son was reared and that being reared in a Leftist household lead to his murdering his parents is an insult to all parents who tried over and over again to help a child struggling with addiction. Good parents of all political stripes.
Oh and in case you are ignorant of the fact being stabbed is a God-awful way to die. Reiner and his wife felt every single time that blade went in. Every slash. Every thrust. Every damn time (unless they were unconscious). It is messy. As in hire a special hazmat cleaning crew messy.
That is what so many here are seeing as justified because of Reiner’s politics and his extreme anti Trump rhetoric. For Trump to join in such a viewpoint is shameful.

Trump has earned the right to despise the people who’ve tried to destroy his life and imprison him over the last 10 years. That said, how hard would it have been to simply say “It’s a horrible thing, no one deserves to be murdered. RIP”?

Meh. I guess I’d rather he didn’t. But Meathead said the worst crap about Trump, and us, for years and years. He was as #TDS-afflicted as Rosie, Kathy Giffords, et al. And his give a damns are all used up after assassination attempts that arguably were helped along by all the #TDS BS from people like this butthole. It’s long past time to quit acting like there’s a high road that gets us anything with these people.

He probably remembers all the nice words Reiner (and Hollywood) said about him, and the nice words Reiner said about Limbaugh after learning of Rush’s terminal lung cancer.

There are times when one comes out much further ahead by keeping one’s mouth shut. For Trump, this was one of those times. I was stunned by his post.
Reiner Hated America. Hated Religion. Hated American traditions. Hated white people. Hated Police.

Meh. it's a public debate. Dont' worry about it. I didn't love Reiner, I didn't hate him. I liked some of his movies. I thought Spinal Tap was very funny and Stand By Me was a classic and beautiful "coming of age" movie.
People are complex and its difficult to sum them up.
But like you, I agree - everyone must act according to some belief, some ideology, and some view of morality. And acting on contradictory or incorrect beliefs, amplified by money, fame, and narcissism, will cause downstream consequences one can't control.
President Trump spent a lot of time around many of these Hollywood types before he became President. They all sang a different tune when they needed something. At this point He’s just saying out loud what the rest of us are thinking !
