I love Christmas. Christmas is a time for celebrating and giving. I live in a small town in Appalachia that lights up for Christmas. People dress as Santa or the Grinch. You can see some of the houses here from space. The town puts lights on the bridge and has all kinds of light displays including a nativity. They are giving and it makes them happy. It’s a rather poor community but they still manage to give especially to those in need.

My sister feels exactly as you do. I don’t know how she would feel if she lived here but I wish she would come if we did nothing but talk about the good old days.

I read this book every year.
“There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say,” returned the nephew. “Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round — apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that — as a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, Uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!” Fred, A Christmas Carol.”
― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

It’s interesting what they have to say but once a work is released the artist has no control of how it is received.

What ever happened to Santa Claus Conquers the Martians in 1964.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers that one!! Just AWFUL! It's like watching a car wreck in slow motion and you just can't stop watching it!

Have you seen the movie ‘Little Voice’? Caine is in that, as is Jane Horrocks (’Absolutely Fabulous’) and Brenda Blethyn (later famous as ‘Vera’).

I saw the stage play ages ago, but this movie adaptation ain’t half bad. Jane Horrocks can really SING!

‘Ben Hur’ was our ‘Jeopardy’ calendar answer the other day. I guessed ‘The Ten Commandments’ and lost $2000! D’Oh!

I did find "Jingle All The Way" to be fun to watch...and you are right: "...this movie was spot-on about how too many people allow commercialism/consumerism squash the true meaning of Christmas..."

My wife and I stopped buying Christmas presents for each other years ago, which I really like. There was once a time I enjoyed it, but it became stressful for me, and for her. Especially for her. Her family is very much into it, and they still don't accept that she doesn't want to be involved in exchanging gifts, even though she has baldly told them multiple times. It can be pretty awkward.

We have a family get-together today, and she said if she gets something, she is just going to give it back. I don't know how this is going to work out.

We both enjoy just appreciating Christmas and dispensing with the gifts, but it is hard for some to understand that I guess.

“...And Sound of Music!”

My Grandma LOVED going to the movies. ‘The Sound of Music’ was the very first movie I saw in a theater. I was 4 years old in 1964. Magical!

Still a favorite that I watch at least once a year. I can sing every song, but I’ll spare you, LOL!

"They did not include the original TV version of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' which is a shame because it is perfect."

Agreed! I'm so in love with Max!

The Hallmark movie they filed this year was filmed in Door County, WI!

A beautiful setting in any season, really. Have vacationed there many times.
