Stunning video shows the moment a skydiver’s parachute got caught on a plane’s tail — leaving him dangling 15,000 feet above the ground.
The parachutist was climbing out the door and preparing to jump out over North Queensland, Australia, when the handle for his reserve parachute hooked onto a partially extended wing flap, causing it to deploy as he jumped, the hair-raising footage shows.
The reserve parachute then became entangled on the aircraft’s tail, leaving the man desperately flailing from the back of the speeding jet, video from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) shows.

Wow! I'd a peed my pants!
“speeding jet” ?? Don’t think so.
People will do ANYTHING for clicks.
Thank you 🙏
Don’t know what happened there
C208B caravan, looks like unmodified with the P&W PT6. I fly jumpers in the upgraded ones with bigger engines.
Everyone got lucky here. A canopy over the tail can cause loss of flight control. A main parachute over the tail could be cut away by the jumper by pulling a single cutaway handle. But a reserve parachute cant be released like that. The jumper fortunately was carrying and able to get to a ‘hook knife’, like a small box cutter handle and blade, and cut the individual lines to get off the tail and into freefall. He then had to deploy a main into the garbage still over his head and hope it didnt result in an entanglement.
Do you all know what Geronimo says when he jumps from an airplane ? MMMMEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
If it happened to me, I would assume I was going to die. Then, when another sky diver saved my ass and I landed safely, I’d kiss the ground and think, never again, no way. Somebody up above me there was telling me something.
Since when do you parachute (for sport) from a JET?
Personally speaking, I won’t even try iFLY.......much less jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Lol!
“the speeding jet”
Hmmm
:-)
The first time I watched the clip it looked like another parachutist saved him, didn’t see it the second time. I guess he saved himself. One lucky dude.
It is done. I have jumped a 727 (DB Cooper style) at sporting events, and in the military I jumped a variety of 'jets'.
As for this article, a Cessna 208B is a turboprop, a type of turbine engine but not a pure jet or even a turbo-fan like most commercial carriers.
And speed on jump run is typically about 90 mph, so calling that a 'speeding jet' is a bit of an exaggeration.
I retired from it a few years ago after over 35 years of military/sport jumping with a little over 7000 jumps.
