A Florida circuit judge refused to halt the long-planned and anticipated Florida bear hunt. The bear hunt is the first to be allowed since 2014-15, when 305 bears were harvested in two days. Bear Warriors United, a non-profit association, attempted to stop the hunt. Here is the first sentence in Bear Warriors United vision:
Our vision is to create a Florida where people and wildlife coexist in balance and mutual respect.
The vision implies nature is in balance without humans, and animals are legitimately regarded as the equal of humans. It is a basic misunderstanding of reality. There is no “balance” in nature unless it is created and maintained by humans. Respect for humans by animals is created by a justified fear of humans. Animals do not read laws. Animals are not concerned with human ethics or morals. Animals are not people. Most bears killed in Florida are cubs, killed and eaten by adult male bears. The scheduled bear hunt is aimed at killing adult male bears, by scheduling the hunt for the period most female bears with cubs are already in dens for hibernation, and adult males are still out and about.
About 300 bears are killed in vehicle collisions in Florida each year. The last study to determine the bear population was in 2014-15. The population was estimated at about 4,350. The growth of the bear population in Florida was estimated to reach 11,000 by 2026, which happens to be the same as the bear population was estimated to be before European contact. Florida, because of human intervention, is much more productive of food available to bears than it was before European contact.
In the planned hunt, it is unlikely more than 133 bears will be harvested.

lol, what????? Mutual respect? These ppl aren’t living in reality.
I blame Disney. People have totally misguided and unrealistic views of wild animals. All kinds of animals, wild and domesticated.

I do have some sympathy for the idea that human expansion into more and more wildlife areas is forcing animals, including bears, into more frequent contact with humans. Bears, like other predators, need a certain amount of territory to survive and that is being shut off at least in the Eastern US.
Liberals are stupid. They look at bears with the same romanticism they look at wetbacks. The more the merrier.
I’m surprised living here in Florida, we don’t have a Monkey Hunt to cull a growing population of primates that carry herpes.
We have a significant monkey population in the Ocala National Forest area, especially around rivers and springs.
We have full time python hunters in the Everglades, we now have bear hunt to cull the herd, why not a monkey hunt as well.

What a frivolous lawsuit. I hope the court ordered this “charity” to pay fees.
The other option is to create a Florida eco-tourism office which caters to the left in the state & encourages them to go out, hike/camp & enjoy nature...

I recall driving east across Hwy 70 one morning. A bear was belly up on the shoulder. A few yards later, a 10+ft gator was belly up on the highway shoulder. I suspect the two were wrestling, and neither saw the truck that hit them.

Black bear is good eating, the fat is second to none for pastry and biscuits and pie crusts. Sous vide @ 160F for at least 30 min kills any parasites stone cold dead without making the steaks shoe leather. Crockpot the fat and trimmings filter the oil through a coffee fabric not paper coffee filter it’s wonderful white fat. It can be people if they have been eating berries if it’s blue that’s warfarin it’s poison the whole animal is wasted then.
