Another good one from that LP. Really the whole thing is worth a play thru.
Today, you can still make a bare-bones C++ app (like we remember) in Linux with the g++ command-line compiler. I don't know if that's the case if you make a C++ app in the Eclipse IDE on Linux.
Heh... most wristwatches have significantly more storage than any of those old floppy formats. We’ve all used 3.5 and 5.25, and way back when I also used 8” (IBM DisplayWriter, and an old CP/M behemoth that was around the office).
Yup. Surface mounted RAM is a necessity in common products such as mobile phones, or as everyone younger than me calls them, phones. 🤙
The RAM Shortage Comes for Us AllDecember 4, 2025Memory price inflation comes for us all, and if you're not affected yet, just wait.
I was building a new PC last month using some parts I had bought earlier this year. The 64 Gigabyte T-Create DDR5 memory kit I used cost $209 then. Today? The same kit costs $650!
Just in the past week, we found out Raspberry Pi's increasing their single board computer prices. Micron's killing the Crucial brand of RAM and storage devices completely, meaning there's gonna be one fewer consumer memory manufacturer. Samsung can't even buy RAM from themselves to build their own Smartphones, and small vendors like Libre Computer and Mono are seeing RAM prices double, triple, or even worse, and they're not even buying the latest RAM tech!
I think PC builders might be the first crowd to get impacted across the board—just look at these insane graphs from PC Parts Picker, showing RAM prices going from like $30 to $120 for DDR4, or like $150 to five hundred dollars for 64 gigs of DDR5.

I had sort of a longer term need for a MicroSD and because the need wasn't pressing, had back burnered it until after Christmas. Seeing JG's vid, I hopped right on and ordered one, comes with an adapter I'll need, and while I like the SanDisk brand, I really got pulled in by the USB adapter, which is from Everything But Stromboli.
“I think he was referring to the “Visual” of MS Visual C++ adding a lot of run time overhead (.Net Framework stuff) compared to a C++ program that a lot of us first learned.”
Yes, but Visual C++ does not bind in everything you don’t need as he said.
* There’s no shortage, it’s right here:*
I looked high, I looked low, I looked everywhere I go. Livin in a home in the heart of the country.
That was your first mistake.
I upgraded for my employer back when an original IBM-PC with a 10 Meg hard disc. We were NEVER going to fill that up!
Yeah, imagine my chagrin at the first Disk Full error.
😄
The local (well, nearest) computer recycling place peaked with the collection center and two retail locations (the addresses varied), went down to one, then closed that main drag location and went back to having their sales floor in the collection center. This could be good for their biz.
